Marshall would beat us this year, just because they arent on the schedule doesnt mean that they dont get to chest thump about being better right now. Going back 20 years I count maybe 2 times Marshall would have beat WVU straight up, if we regularly scheduled them losing 1 out of every 10 isnt the end of the world.
At he end of the day it's just a sporting contest not the cataclysmic event some WVU folks think it is...we've won in hoops several times and the earth didn't fall off it's axis!

4 of those matchups were literally 99+ years ago, and of the 8 games in the electricity era 2 were competitive (25%). Its a more interesting opponent than a MAC or FCS team, and if we lose so what, we werent going to win a national title anyway.
Fear of Marshall is an ego thing. Some here have such frail egos that losing to Marshall would kill them. Is Notre Dame going to be damaged permanently because A good Marshall team beat them? Of course not.
Neither would WVU and games with passion are why the game should exist in the first place. Should be an annual event and harms WVU in no way. Marshall is a respected program whether some like it or not, losing to them is not going to hurt WVU and if you think it would, then don’t let them beat you. But that sorry old excuse- fear of losing shouldn’t keep a good game from taking place. I mean WVU is playing no interest Towson this week and has a boring matchup like that every year. Get nothing out of it if they win and the many power schools that have had close games or lost to lower division schools didn’t end any program like ND or A& M or Michigan yet. Marshall would be exciting regardless of who wins And it’s a game a lot of fans would like to see.

This exactly. If we’re going to be a doormat, then give us some spicy OOC games atleast. The Pitt game was a crap result but a fun buildup and experience. I think a game with Marshall would be a better time than Towson.

No. That Friday night was the overtime win in Huntington. There were two more games in Morgantown. Those last two were not national.

WVU had tv control of those games, the networks wanted the game but WVU would not let them telecast the game nationally.
College football is supposed to be fun and be about competition against teams that the fans like playing against.
There are many fans who enjoy that game and would likely be more interested in it than even many of the conference matchups. Should happen often.
