does anybody think we can land one or two left on our offer list. Equanimous St Brown while interest has waned is still available. Justin Reed whose ACT is at least par for a NU athlete. Then there is the defensive lineman from Texas Ross Donelly. If we can land two of these three it will soften the sting. Any thoughts or is this a pipe dream?

Maryland had a winning season and just lost two recruits to Indiana, but of course we're the only school that had decommits.

Not only that, but Florida State lost a four-star commit yesterday. So did Florida. Alabama lost three commits just last week. I hate to break it to you, but this isn't just happening to NU, guys.

Yes, you are correct, other teams have decommits. The difference is that other teams like maryland still routinely sign 4 stars after decommits. Our decommits are painful. We lost two 4 star and two great 3 stars. And we have to replace them with 2stars or walkons. Make no mistake, this class will be lucky to stay within the top 60.

Maryland ROUTINELY signs four-stars? I live on the border of Maryland, and any Terp fan would laugh in your face at that statement. You did notice that Kentucky recently lost those same four-stars you're talking about, right? You have no way of knowing whether we've lost great three-stars or not. None of these kids have played a down.

Your statement basically was we need more wins to avoid decommits. As Lou and I pointed out, programs who've had winning seasons (in the case of FSU, a freaking BCS semifinalist) are having recommits, so apparently having a winning season is no guarantee of anything.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but the schtick is getting old.

Our decommits are both kids who obviously decided they wanted to stay closer to home. In Perry's case, he had two close friends going to Michigan. The decisions would seem to have very little to do with our two 5-7 seasons.

Turl's point is valid, though. NU is losing its better recruits and replacing them with lower rated recruits. Whatever the cause, it is concerning.

OTOH, if NU can land a player the caliber of XWas at the last minute, it's all good!

So MD averages 3.5 4* or better. Not bad. Turk is right.

Otoh our recruiting was solid the year after the bowl win.

Two or more awful seasons will take a heckuva lot of air out of our recruiting.

Maryland has two four-stars this year and as many two-stars as we do in a smaller class. That is not ROUTINELY replacing recruits with four-stars. The Ohio States, Penn States, Alabamas etc. replace with four-stars. The others not so much.

By the way, one of Maryland's four-stars was a decommit from Penn State who decided he wanted to play in Maryland. Sound familiar?

You strongly implied that they've been recruiting better than us by routinely replacing decommits with four-stars. They're 31-44 over the past six seasons while we're 42-35 facing relatively similar levels of competition, so I would maintain they certainly haven't been outrecruiting us in recent years. The only other explanation would be that our coaches that I constantly hear are crap have been doing a better job of coaching up the players. I think that is entirely within the scope of this conversation.

Maybe our class this year is bad and Maryland's is wonderful. We'll soon know.

Let me see if this might be the real thing - you take issue with Turk and his repeated protests about the state of the program. Maybe because he is not an NU alum, you ride him harder.

Look around PA, at least half the participating board is unhappy with the state of the program. Last I checked, message boards are exactly where folks go to discuss these things. I'm pretty sure that's why they are popular. I don't visit any blindly, constant rah-rah-rah boards on any topic. But I have also never joined a cult...

Want positive banter - so does everyone else - all we need is for the program to announce something worthy of mass accolades. Adding a highly regarded recruit, announcing the actual ground breaking for some new facilities, a random change in staffing - these could all get positive discussion rolling.

But we get, decommits, lower replacement commits and indignant stagnation. So we gripe.

Interesting choice of time frames - but over the past two years, they are 14-12 (including two Bowl games) while we are 10-14 with zero Bowl games.

One possible explanation for their results despite landing top recruits in those earlier years: poor player development (something we seem to know a thing about). I don't follow Maryland - prior to 2013, were there any coaching changes?

Or maybe they play in a harder division of the B1G10?

I don't think we will soon know whether our recruiting class is better as we do not seem to have any coaches that can develop the talent that arrives. Instead, we will have more injuries, more defections, and my favorite, more excuses from apologists like you.

No surprise that Harbaugh is already stealing recruits. Spin this however you want but the program is troubled. Recruiting has slipped dramatically, at least on paper. Whether or not this shows up on the field remains to be seen. In addition, NU is not putting anyone in the NFL, currently with only 6 players on rosters. This speaks to a lack of player development. Recruits are paying attention. Oh, and those 4* Ohio twins that Fitz stopped recruiting just ended up at MSU.

I cherry picked the last two years just like you cherry picked the 10-3 for NU. Pot calling the kettle black. I picked the last two season to illustrate the nonsense of your post.

And without that excellent coach, they have gone to two Bowls and maintained a winning record. And I suspect that some asst level coaching changes also occurred.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Maryland placed third in that division behind the two schools you referenced - one being our national champion.

But, I would be happy if the 'less than excellent' Fitz would simply make some changes. If not, I would be okay with his departure.

Anything to show me that the school, the department, the AD is committed to winning.

I would say the last 4 classes combined (including this one) are probably the best four consecutive classes we have signed in that same period of time. Stick to you day job because evaluating recruiting efforts is clearly not your forte.

Player development is a legitimate concern.

If we have another mediocre or disappointing next couple of years, it will be hard to dispute that coaching and player development are problematic, if (and I agree) your premise is correct.

Is it a surprise that we just poached a recruit from Duke (which makes poach #3 for this year alone) and we have been poaching recruits all along? What does that make Fitz?

Hmm. OK we replaced Perry with a 3 star. Our recruiting class is now 50th after the Nagel commit, up from 52 after Perry decommitted. So we were never in danger of dropping out of the 60.

And that vaunted mecca of 4-star recruiting, Maryland? They are ranked 49th.

So, in sum, did I miss anything especially enlightening about your post, or were you just trolling as usual?
