If you had the choice would you rather have had Wenyen and Vanderbilt return plus add Zion? Or keep it the way it is and return Pj and add Travis?

Maybe it's bias but I'm more excited about Travis than I have anyone in a long time.

I'm with you

edit-Primarily because of Reid. Very very excited to have his hustle, skill and EXPERIENCE

Once I would jump at the first group because I was drunk with Zion hype. However, I'm not convinced he will thrive as much as he's expected to. Kind of undersized, and I don't know if he has post moves. Very skilled dunker, but how much is there to his game beyond that? Also, I doubt JV would be healthy all season either. I'll take door #2.

Def take PJ and Travis. The fact that Montgomery's decision to come to UK was influenced by his interactions with Zion leads me to believe we dodged a chemistry killing bullet with him. Plus Vando's injuries make him too unreliable. PJ was really starting to hit his stride at the end of the season, and despite his FT woes against KSU, he had a great game. I'm really excited about getting Travis. He looks like the kind of veteran guy you can win a title with.

I'll leave Zion aside because his choice seems unrelated to the others.

Of the other four, I'd have ranked them this way BEFORE any decisions: 1. Washington 2. Travis 3. Gabriel 4. Vanderbilt. Why Vando last? I'm just not sure he'll ever play a season without injury issues. And nothing can debilitate a team faster than a critical cog in and out of the mix. Wenyen just seemed to be completely unable to adjust to what was required of him on the defensive end. On offense, he was essentially a set shooter. The Cats have guys like Herro and Baker I'd much rather see take those shots.

I'm fine with the way it turned out. We are adding (I hope) possibly the preseason PAC 12 player of the year.

Other than YouTube high lights who knows what Zion will be.

We gotta get Reid. If we do, I'd think that's a wash between the two comparisons. I was/am a big fan of WG's energy that he brings, his ability to spread the floor, and his experience at UK in the spotlight. JV is a beast on the glass with a high motor and good court vision. And Zion would've been at the very least a great win on the recruiting front given his highly visible persona.

I do think Reid is currently the best player out of all 5 with the most experience, and obviously PJ is only going to get better.

Tough call. If we get Reid I'll side with that combo......since they're actually playing for us.

The possibility of JV never being 100 percent always bothered me too. Hope he can get the medical attention required to fix any issues.

This is a scenario. It's not unrelated.

Since Wenyen's agent showed up (dad? mom?) can you give him our regards and tell us what made him leave early?
Seriously, I loved the guy's attitude and his energy, but he was never going to learn how to anticipate on defense and on offense he was basically a very tall set shooter. I kept hoping he'd be someone else, but that's who he was.

For some reason, I've never felt Vando would be fully healthy; and this feeling was there long before he returned for his stretch later in the season. I get a bad vibe from him for whatever reason. Almost like he wasn't bought in? Can't explain it fully, just seemed like the wrong piece to me. I was excited about him playing, but never felt great about him either?

PJ and Travis. And I don’t think Cal wanted the Vanderbilt drama anymore imo.

Yep, again as I have said before I am not the type to jump on the "bash train" when players (even ignorantly) declare for the draft like JV did...but idk, there just seemed to be a LOT of smoke, Cal calling him out in public...his circle seemingly holding JV back for monetary gain (lol what monetary gain though?)

That is the saddest part of all imo. I mean granted these guys are adults, however many of them have had their handlers, brothers, friends, mentors, Uncle Grandfather T (as @morgousky so eloquently put it...I got a chuckle out of that one lol) in their ear since they were probably 14 essentially guiding (aka making decisions) for them. It sucks and it is sad. So many people on here are quick to bash those of us who legitimately think JV is making an IGNORANT business decision...as if we "only care about ourselves"

Nope, someone like SGA, Knox etc? 100% absolutely makes sense to declare...make that guaranteed millions. But JV? lol...when he could have come back, made even MORE legit connections with the help of Cal, built his brand...built more hype and easily go lottery/mid first round next year?

It is a foolish decision, and when thinking long term its evident it is a stupid decision. Hand to god, if my son had the gifts PJ, JV etc had I would absolutely encourage their hand to return to school. PJ made the right decision.
Look, of course these guys want to be millionaires playing for an organization as awesome as the NBA...who freaking wouldn't? But sometimes...ya know sometimes...it takes more than 9 months of haphazard "work" to become a multi millionaire. This thinking of "He is 20 years old and maxed out!" is Ludacris

PJ and Travis. PJ was the best of the potential returners, and having a Sophomore who started his whole freshman year and a 5th year Senior will be great for us. Vanderbilt may or may not have been healthy and willing to contribute, Gabriel was a nice player who I wanted back but didn't fundamentally change the team. Zion could be an absolute beast, but I'll take known quantities in PJ and Travis.

My feelings exactly and I'll add a little something more. I think JV and his handlers were a big problem last season. As much as I would love to see JV in UK blue next year, I think it's best that he's gone.
As far as Zion, would love to have gotten him, but what can he do besides dunk? I think he made a mistake going to duke. Sure, he'll score, but who is going to teach him how to play defense and rebound? K is an awesome coach, maybe best ever, but teaching defense to young teams is an issue for him.
But getting our roster, complete with Hagans, PJ and Travis… that's close to best case scenario. Only thing better for our situation would have been to get Wenyen and/or Zion out of the players that were realistic to get.
I like my team.

PJ and Travis. I was excited about the prospect of Zion being a Cat but the experience of Travis is a key we have been missing to get us another championship. Plus, 19.5 ppg and 8 rpg in a power conference is hard to pass on. Add the fact that PJ should be an animal with experience this season makes it an easy call for. Now we just need to get Travis!

Same here, PJ and Travis. If PJ can take the next step and Travis is a beast, so we're good. Hopefully PJ and Travis are passing in the post like he and JV did. Just need to build chemistry.
