One is a coach whose love for the school comes off dorky.
One is a coach who nearly caused irreparable damage to the school. There’s an alternate reality where Kentucky basketball effectively dies in ‘89.
I can’t pile on to a coach that loves the school, no matter how embarrassingly cringeworthy it is. I still got love for Pope, even if I think he stinks as a coach.
Do I laugh when I see that video? Yes. It’s objectively hilarious. But it wasn’t dumb. It’s endearing and pathetic in a loving way.

If he was winning and kicking everybody’s *** this would be the coolest video in the world. Can’t do these videos then act like a pu$$y on the side lines also.
I remember thinking, Pope does have all girls, they probably loved it. But you are right, if he was kicking a.ss, it wouldn't even be brought up. And if he starts winning now, I don't care how much goofy s.hit he does.

You are right, I had a bad moment. And I am sorry that I have become so negative. I love Kentucky basketball, and wish the best for Pope. I live in Utah, and actually bragged on him at BYU, he had some big wins there also.
You won't see any more laughing at our coach from me. Because it really is not funny at all.

Look Pope is sucking right now, but he's not an *******. He genuinely cares about this place.
The problem is he's not getting the job done.

Best thing would be for him to get it together. As much as I’ve been hard on him I would rather him succeed here before we had to fire him. I go back and forth between feeling sorry for him then not.

I remember last year when this first showed, everyone loved it. They loved that didn't mind showing just how much he loves Kentucky. Now, this board is filled with people who just want him to lose and want to make fun of him for that same love of Kentucky that everyone thought was great. Again, this year has been tough, but all of the insults and lowering yourselves to the level that many on here have achieved really doesn't accomplish anything positive. He's the coach of the Kentucky Wildcats and as long as he's in that position, I will cheer for him to win and support the team.

We all want him to succeed. Doesn’t mean he is or will. Hopefully we win some games this year and sign some studs. Otherwise it’s not gonna be pretty for Pope. That’s not our fault.
And that's not relevant to my post that you quoted at all. I'm not saying he's doing great; I'm saying that he's Kentucky's coach and I will ALWAYS cheer on my Cats. That video was every where last year and everyone loved it. They loved his passion for Kentucky, but now, you guys are saying that the video is awful and embarrassing? It's the same video as it was when everyone thought it was great. No one is happy with how this year has gone so far, but I don't understand what you guys think the endless threads and posts every single day are doing to help? I've been a fan for over 60 years; and I'll continue to be a fan until I'm gone. I'm embarrassed by people who claim to be Kentucky fans, but can't do anything except complain. This season has sucked... I agree. But, I still hold out hope for some changes and for things getting better. It may not happen, but that doesn't change that I will cheer for Kentucky to win, every single game they play. Nobody’s cheering for the Cats to lose. Why do you think people are so pissed off and throwing shade at Pope? It’s because we are LOSING. It’s not like we’re looking for a reason to dislike Pope. We’re looking for a reason to LIKE him. And btw you’re not the only fan of Kentucky basketball so stop acting like you make the rules on how to fan. Get over yourself.
Nothing to get over. I never claimed to make the rules. There have been several people on this board that have stated they hope the Cats lose, so Pope gets fired. That wasn't directed you, that was a general statement; you were the one that jumped on my post that had nothing to do with his record compared to another coaches record. As I said, I'm not happy about losing either, but I can have a message board discussion without calling out other posters and trying to pick a fight with anyone who isn't hysterical about firing Pope.

Who gives a rats *** if you’re embarrassed by people claiming to be Kentucky fans? Just because they’re expressing their displeasure on the current situation differently than you, that doesn’t make you “above” them. People will fan how they want to fan and if you’re too sensitive to handle it, you should join one of those Facebook Kentucky basketball groups where there are rules preventing criticism.
