Results from tonight's Championship matches. Unfortunately, the only lower seed to win was Mir over Larramendy.

McKendree wins the team title 171-166 over Iowa. Don't know how the scoring works to know if Larramendy losing was the difference or not.

Reese winning would've been four, plus 1.5 for a tech or 2 for a fall. It was there for the taking which makes it sting even worse.

I think points are all the same minus major decision bonus pts. +4 from 2nd to 1st, +1.5 for tech, +2 for pin.

Alright, so it's the same tournament-style scoring as the men (minus major decision?). Just different wrestling styles.

Even with Reese losing, McKendree's 110 got lucky this morning, winning the consolation semifinals and the 3rd place match both by forfeit, for an extra 4 team points. And if Nyla were able to wrestle the third place match against her and beat her again, that's another 2 point swing. That would've been enough to change the team race just there.

Razor thin margins. McKendree got it done. Hats off to them

Well it’s apparently not that obvious or I wouldn’t have had to post it. (I too thought it was obvious.)
Well hell tell that to women's BB.. selling out three years now..i remember going to games when they dropped curtains to hide the empty seats.
I'm glad you showed up to share your special sunshine.

Have it somewhere else and tell us how attendance is.
Were you there? Teams travel well. And they don't call themselves wrestle town USA. I'm disappoint and think it's too bad it didn't get more attention.
Didn't realize some would take some offense at this take.. my opologies.

So many what ifs. Karlee Brooks losing a 7-2 lead by getting pinned in the quarters (after escaping a first near pin), only to fall to the backside and finish 7th. That was a three point loss there minimum as she'd have been guaranteed 6th place by making the semis. Kennedy not getting the tech this morning. Leng not reaching the podium when she was that close to beating an eventual McK finalist in the first round. Brianna being able to hold either of her four pointers against Sakamoto instead of getting rolled through both times. So very close. Of course McK had a number one seed in the final four drop her next two matches which was unexpected. And some like Brianna and Nyla won some coin flip matches that could've easily gone the other way.

My bad forgot Osteen was done. Be interesting to see who goes up
I expect we see Simon fill the 207 weight next season. Highest World/Olympic weight in womens freestyle is 76kg (~168 pounds). Can't imagine Welker would want to pack on any weight to wrestle higher than the 180 weight class in college since she has to stay close enough to 76kg to compete for World/Olympic team and wrestle international events. Welker could probably just wrestle 207 at her current weight and win championship, but she would be wrestling at a weight disadvantage against most opponents. Makes more sense for Simon to bulk up a bit and fill the 207 weight class with less weight disadvantage.

That would make sense Simon was redshirting this year as well maybe to get a bit bigger. I realized I put Welker oops 😬

Do you think that has anything to do with women’s basketballs being infinitely more popular than women’s wrestling? Or how about it being an established and successful program. Or, I don’t know, maybe having arguably the best player in history on the team to boost interest could have been a factor? That said, I like how you acknowledge they built their fan base over time but don’t understand why wrestling needs to do the same.

And people can’t seem to figure out why I state the obvious. 😂

Reese didn't look quite her dominating self the whole tournament. She just seemed a little off. I can't really explain it, but she was. Maybe sick, who knows?

2x national champs, Olympic silver medalist. The product is good just like BB. Other fans made us sound like the visiting team. Yes, men's sports are more popular. Thanks for sharing..

We were there for all sessions and the women put on a great show. Attendance at final session was decent, but end sections were virtually empty. It will take time to grow the sport - we need more D1 womens wrestling teams to draw in fans from the D1 schools. It's a very busy time of year for wrestling with Iowa AAU Girls State this weekend, Peewee State this weekend, and Men's Big10s this weekend. Other states also have lots of wrestling going on, with some states having state championships this weekend. Mens D3 Championship is next weekend. The wrestling fanbase gets spread thin this time of year with multiple major events every weekend. I suspect there would have been a lot more young Iowa girls and their families attending this weekend if they didn't have the Iowa AAU Girls State conflict.

With the first day being on Friday, I had to make a choice of take vacation last Monday to go to girls state basketball to watch niece play or this - I chose to go watch my niece. Saturday both kids had practices in the mornings so would have missed a good chunk of the session, so just watched online. Busy time of year, and lots of wrestling to watch - we are spoiled now.

Yeah, I get that, we have grand kids in multiple events, lots of action this time of year.
