Worst Reds Trade Ever

I had forgotten that Edwin Encarcion had played 4 seasons for Cincinnati hitting 71 homers in 4 seasons just starting his career. In 2008 he hit 26 homers.

I remember the Reds trading him but did not think about it much at the time.

Traded in 2009 along with a couple of no name pitchers for Scott Rolen when Rolen's best playing days were behind him. He already has about 213 career HRs and has smacked 18 in the first 50 games this season. If he keeps up the pace he will have about 55 for the season. The Reds might hit a combined 55 this year.

It is a damn shame that when Cincy has probably some of the best pitching in their history the offense is Anemic and Inept.

I do take some solace in knowing that the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics also whiffed on him. Not much though.

The trade at the time, was absolutely the right thing do.

Yes Rolen was old, but he was an element the team needed at that time and for 2010. Unfortunately he didn't bring much to the table after 2010.

Im happy that Edwin has found success in Toronto, but he's a DH only forced the to play the field in certain situations.

If he were still here and having to play the field everyday the 30-40 errors a year would skew what he could do offensively.....at least for me.

Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas was probably the worst followed by Josh Hamilton for Edinson Volquez.
