Would Collins Ever Resign?

Is there a recent example of a P5 coach who still had years on his contract but simply said, "this isn't working out for me or the school" and resigned? And I don't mean resigned because they took a better job, but left because it just wasn't working.

Collins is actually a pretty tenured coach at this point. He knows NU, knows the culture, the positives, negatives, would he ever step down to pursue other opportunities? We have no AD, and a fan base with extremely low expectations so I'm sure his job is safe. I wonder if he's sick of the losing as well and ready to try something different with fewer recruiting restrictions. At the end of the day, he already did what he came here to (expressly) do which was get NU to the tournament.

Is there any recent precedent for a coach that's not on the hot seat resigning just because it wasn't working out?

He has 3.5 millions reasons to stay as is.

Who would, realistically, hire CC? I can’t see a power program hiring him. Maybe if it’s a IA State/Kansas State struggling type of program?

Money isn’t everything. Collins may be as miserable watching this team as the fans are. He’s a smart guy. An NBA front office or assistant job might be enticing. I’m certainly not predicting such a thing but stranger things have happened.

Unless he's a complete dumb ***, and I definitely don't think he is, he's got enough dough invested that money isn't an issue. All this losing has to be killing him. I would not be at all surprised if he walked away.

I always thought that the NBA was his future landing spot. But don't think he will just resign, unless a big opportunity presents itself. Bulls? His dad is employed by them.

The Bulls now have a competent front office and a proven head coach in the building. No way CC gets a “big opportunity” there.

I don't think it's about him leaving to take another head coaching gig at the college level. I'm wondering if coaches ever just say, "this ain't working for either of us" and leave even without having something lined up. It seems like coaches always get fired, or leave for a better job.

maybe just the Collins name.

Which would fly under GarPax, but not Karnasovas & Eversley. They actually have a clue.

If Collins left (either via resignation or dismissal) and still wanted to coach, I think heading back to Duke as an assistant would make the most sense. Take the Jeff Capel route.

Lovie nice man, terrible college coach.
I don’t think you’ll get much of an argument from anyone.
Met him twice and he couldn’t have more cordial and pleasant to me or my kids...

...wanted to strangle him with each ensuing completion down the middle of the field by the opposition on 3rd and 12+
