Na it’s been said plenty the last few games. Last win was bad for the program. That’s the point we are at.
Even if they come back and win this game it’s pretty clear this experiment has to end

Nope. I was very pissed when Stoops beat Florida and Auburn. Thought it was going to make us stuck with him another year. It still cost us Sumrall. It’ll have to get ugly as hell for short bus Mitch to fire Pope so we have to hope for that. Going 22-14 with a first weekend exit is the worst thing for this program.
It's objectively worse for the program to be the bottom of the barrel and a laughing stock. For the health of the program long term, you want the "bad" years to really not be that bad. You don't want to fall off a cliff, much harder to rebuild, especially if it happens often. You can still move on from a coaching situation if it's been mediocre, which is far better than humiliation. It might be quicker to lose terribly but it's definitely not better.

Glad we pulled off the win. Happy for Moreno who had an overall tough game. Typically a win like that I’d be riding high all night but almost immediately went into Meh mode. This team just doesn’t have it and neither does Pope. Hard to be excited about anything really with those two things in play.
Beating a bad LSU team isn’t going to make the season.

You have to hope that a win like this creates a vibe for the team to work even harder improving their efforts. I thought Jelavic did a great job on the defensive boards and getting the opportunity for minutes is where (again) you hope to see him grow in performance as an example.

I see the upside in the 2nd half. Hell we went on a 50 something to 30 something run. The downside of the first half might balance out the upside in the 2nd to me. Idk I just see something in this team that doesn’t give up and if it clicks especially the 3 pt shooting we could be pretty solid by the sec tournament.
being happy with this 1 particular win doesn’t mean you’re satisfied with this season or even the game we played tonight.

Yes, it is my opinion winning this game could hurt the future health of this program. The sooner Pope is gone the sooner we can get a UK worthy coach here. We got bailed out tonight by an incredible play that rarely happens. Is LSU so good that caused us to be down by 18 AGAIN? No... This team lacks talent, with poor basketball IQ. This team is also lazy. It is commonly said teams take on the personality of the coach.

I never said anything about being satisfied with this season or this coach. I expect to be in the hunt for a title 8/10 years. My expectations have not been met this year. Last year was an overachieving grace period due to extenuating circumstances with the coaching change.
But me or you can expect a national title or final four every year all we want and it doesn’t mean it will happen and history has shown it’s both rare and impressive compared to the rest of the sport.
There’s this notion that UK is dominant for years on end when in historical reality, we run hot and cold for long stretches, are more often than not in the thick of things, are occasionally dominant for brief stretches and rarely bottom out.
Even decades are bad for us going back to the 1950s - 60s, 80s, 2000s, and 2020s = 0 titles, 2 Final Fours.
Odd decades are good for us. 50s, 70s, 90s, 2010s - 6 titles and 12 Final Fours.
Dating back to Rupp we have had title droughts of 20 years, 18 years and are currently coming up on 14 years. Same time period we have had final four droughts of 9 years, 9 years again, 13 years and are sitting at 11 years now.
I was born when Hall was coaching and have seen plenty of average UK basketball in my lifetime outside of my golden eras of 1992-98 and 2010-15.
I am not the judge of Pope’s tenure. I am almost certain he’s getting a third year whether you, me or your expectations like it or not. I’m going to root for the team and hope Pope leads them on an amazing run this season. I know how the UK administration rolls, so a firing after this season is highly unlikely.
And if it does go completely sideways from mediocre to terrible, his fate rests in the hands of his superiors. I am just a fan.
