Would Taphorn's final shot have beat the buzzer had it gone in?

With .6 seconds left in the game Nathan Taphorn caught the ball and then threw it to the basket for what appeared would have been a game winning play had it gone in before the buzzer. Question though even if it had continued forward and dropped into the basket was there enough time remaining for the shot to count?

Maybe someone who has the game recorded can go back and check. Watching it though it sure looked close.

Is getting it off before the buzzer all that matters or does the ball have to reach the basket to qualify as a buzzer beater?

As long as it's out of your hand before the clock reads "0", it counts

There are times where the refs actually go look at the monitor to determine if a player had the ball out of his hand before the clock reached all zeros. It will happen at halftime and at the end of a regulation if the shot decides the game...

I had it recorded and looked back and it would NOT have counted. It was clear when slowing it down frame by frame that it was still in his hand when the clock was at 0.0. Makes you real glad it didn't go in.

If it had gone in, no doubt I would have convinced myself (despite evidence) that he got the shot off and we were screwed! Lol
