Just last week Unc fans claimed we had easy path in 2010 & 2015. That argument has been nullified.

I didn't watch the game. What happened in the second half? ?
29-8 run in 9:30. UVa couldn't break the zone and it showed their weakness. Started forcing shots it seemed but Cuse wanted it more.

I always hate this argument too...especially when I hear it from UNC fans. Honestly you can make the easy path argument most years. Either they play low seeds (UNC this year) or play high-ish seeds (us last year) but everyone claims they're overrated. If you want to you can always discredit the champ. If UNC wins we'll all talk about the absence of true too teams this year...which is true but doesn't mean they don't deserve it...just like Duke in 2010

Agree, at the end of the day a banner is a banner. As much as I want to puke thinking about it, it's the truth. You cannot take ours away or belittle it.

My biggest knock is that the NCAA handed down punishments to all these other schools so quickly and not to UNC. Which tells me they're gonna let them slide or drop the hammer after the tourney. If UNC wins them I see the NCAA making it harsh that way this banner will help the sting. If they lose, then I see them being more lenient. Just my thoughts

UNC will lose a couple scholarships and go on some lenient probation. Nothing major is going to happen....people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think otherwise.

At this point I don't see UNC not winning the championship, barring like a crazy 35-40 point outing in the championship game by Buddy Hield. UNC kind of has a "team of destiny" type of feeling right now. They're just simply catching a ton of breaks such as Bentil and Dunn both saddled with foul trouble in the 2nd round, UNC shooting ridiculously well from 3 against IU, and now against Notre Dame Auguste was out early with 2 fouls and just as I'm typing this Demetrius Jackson is down and possibly hurt.

I think Oklahoma might cut the nets down when it's all said and done. There's something special about Buddy Hield and it just feels like it's his tournament.

It's amazing what happens when you rebound the basketball. Would love to see an improvement for Duke next year.

Do not think its that cut and dried at this point.Early on yes, but UNC knows they are not home free....

Several things make me feel this way....
1/The bogus reporting of "self-admitted" violations in August virtually bought them this year...Otherwise they were likely sitting out the tourney..They played their hand...I look for them to be sitting at home next year(as well as Roy).

2/The document dump forced by the N&O and other media outlets did them no favors...
Public pressure has stepped up, as well as pressure from other schools who have been punished because of all the info released.

3/Roy himself. During his news conference in Raleigh at PNC prior to one of the 1st two games he told the media he would NOT answer questions about his future(Wash Post piece). He's headed outta Dodge because Ol Roy cannot handle not defending his title next year....

Sometimes a team is just destined to win it all and it has been that since the beginning of the year for unc. I've felt all year they were going to win it all and barring an unreal game from an opponent they should coast. They just have too much talented experience this year and I have to give HOF Coach Roy Williams a nod for convincing all to keep coming back. Even with Paige, Johnson and James gone and assuming Meeks, Jackson, Berry, Britt, Hicks and Pinson return they will be good next season also. It really pains be to post this but it's fact. We gotta be better to take over again. OFC

The argument is stupid. The reason you guys didnt play Arizona or Cuntucky last year is because you played the team that beat them. Just like we're playing the team that beat UVA and likely the team that beat Kansas. Don't blame the team for having an easy road, blame the good teams that couldnt get there and made it easy

Exactly. It's silly when Tar Heel fans do it to Duke and it's silly when Duke is now doing it to UNC.

You were one of the clowns doing exactly that last year. What's changed?

But I agree with you....this year. You can only play the team put in front of you.

I thought it was a little fishy that Gonzaga was your 2 seed instead of Arizona or Virginia when Kentucky was supposedly the overall one seed. But i definitely gave them credit for the Utah and Wisconsin wins. Cant speak for the rest of THR

UVA couldn't be....they're a conference team. Arizona was considered a bubble #1 along with Wisconsin. So it made sense they were 1-2 in the same region. It was either Kansas or Gonzaga, and TBH, the Zags were better.

I just can not "give Roy credit" Sky, lol....Do not get me wrong, but like DevilDJ, I believe the guy is pretty much a Master of Manipulation when it comes to convincing his guys to stay...I think hes perhaps one of the most self-serving coaches ever, as evidenced by the scandal and bringing the infamous bastion of athletic advisers Wayne Walden from Kansas...

Oh yeah those remaining guys are not just good- they are excellent players, but Paige and Johnson drive the car, and Roy won't be enjoying the ride next year...He will be long gone.

It's absolutely a fait accompli that UNC will win the title.

UNC arguably has one of the top 3-4 teams and may have won anyway, but they have avoided a series of teams that had legit shots at defeating them (so much of the NCAA tournament is matchups). Among those teams: UK (much better chance at winning than IU); Michigan St.; UVA; Kansas; and I would argue even Duke had as good or better a shot at upsetting them (though UNC is the better team) than either OU or UO.

I don't see how either OU or Villanova can possibly beat UNC.

While Syracuse's zone is at its peak right now and very tough, UNC has so many weapons and can go 9 deep if needed. They also have 5 guys 6'8 or better. No one can really match their size (certainly none of the Final Four teams). And, UNC has a week to work on that zone.

The other problem for Syracuse will be generating offense against UNC's length and defense.

Ol' Roy will have another off-season of media hype and self-glorification (while publicly giving his utterly phony, "awe shucks, it's not me it's the players" spiel).

A month ago the Cheats were the top 6 or 7 team in the country but now they have peaked and I hate to say it but they are destined to cut the nets down.

Uncs path to the point Duke went out was remarkably similar in strengthm. And a 4 seeds path should be considerably harder.

Going by BPI...

Oregon is a couple slots better than Indiana.
Providence is a handful slots better than Yale
And the cupcake first round games who knows.

I mean we might have lucked out with ND and Cuse but our 2nd and 3rd round games weren't easy.

The beat hope IMO is Nova. They are clicking and also have that destiny feel. Arcidiacano is a gutsy senior and ochefu (SP?) is probably the best big left not named Brice. They would struggle to stop uncs bigs, but UNC would struggle to contain them at the other end, they're like a reved up version on ND.

Oh the irony. Do you similarly admonish the Heel posters who annually and ignorantly do the Duke easy road talk?

I don't think anyone is contending any of that. People are just amused that every single year, without fail, one of the first things Heels do on Selection Sunday is to try to claim Duke has an easy road. Even though it is patently ignorant and completely untrue in any possibly meaningful statistical measure, many of you love to claim Duke had an easy road in 2010 and 2015. We are just enjoying the irony of UNC now having potentially the "easiest" path to the championship game in NCAA history (haven't played a top 4 seed, playing the second highest seeded team in history to make the Final Four, etc.).

UNC got an easy road to the championship game but that shouldn't take anything away from them. And anyways, no road is truly easy. They are going to beat Syracuse by 40. Seriously I hope everyone puts money on the Heels to cover that spread whatever it is. Syracuse is just like Middle Tennessee State. Play the game (half) of your life, celebrate, and then go down in flames (or like Indiana beating UK and then dropping a dud against UNC). And @dadecodevil and @dukiejay are right. Hield is going to go off against Nova and shoot worse than Kobe against UNC. Carolina will handle Oklahoma easily. Better prepare yourselves now.
