WVU beat Oakland, 60-53.
Gabe Osabuohien had 9 rebounds, drew 8 fouls mostly offensive fouls, passed ball to his teammates.
Taz Sherman scored 18 points and made 3 of 4 free throws.
WVU defense caused 25 Oakland turnovers and any time you hold any team to 53 points that’s tenacious, harassing, effective defense.
WVU was sloppy, allowed too many straight-line drives and let Oakland get 3 or 4 shots in 1 possession.
The talent elements are there. Have to streamline, smooth out and control the ball-handling better.
WVU out-hustled on rebounds, 48-33. Huggins isn’t going to allow that to become a habit.
10 of 18 on free throws. Not nearly good enough. Taze was 3 of 4, Cottrell 2 of 3 and Curry 2 of 2.
Gabe missed both of his free throws.

Serious question CFE...,why do you insist on posting things fans already know? It's like you think you're the only one who watched the game or googled stats from ESPN. It's annoying and makes you look like a true loser and doofus.

We were sure spoiled by McBride. No one has stepped up to try to dominate the lane on both ends and our point guard play is very weak. Too much dribbling, poor passing, and ball handling.

There is a lot of work for this team if they want in the dance this year.

Huggins was right. Culver will be missed more than McBride. This team has a serious rebounding deficiency.

Don‘t worry Allen Pitt is coming to Morgantown. I witnessed possibly the worst Pitt hoop game of my life yesterday. If Pitt scores 52 points I’d be surprised.

Maybe so, but I felt like we lacked a PG who could run the team and offense. We looked confused the entire game, couldn't get in any rhythm offensively. At one point I believe we were up by 17 points, and felt like it was headed in the right direction. Then we went on a turnover spree and scoring dry spell. And we ended the game without scoring a FG in the final 4:30. That SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.

We haven't had a true PG in 12 years. Dry spells happen to every team. It's the 6 to 8 minute ones that are killers. I believe they looked confused because they couldn't figure out the defense at all. They really struggled against the multiple 1-3-1 and 1-2-2 and 1-1-3 defense that Oakland threw at them.

At the same time WVU defense was far superior to last year. If Taz goes down this team will be finished.

THAT WILL BE A KILLER DOWN THE ROAD. THE TALENT IS THERE. IT JUST NEEDS TO BE HAVE THE ROUGH EDGES SMOOTHED OUT AND THE DIAMONDS POLISHED. AND, MOST OF ALL, ORGANIZED. HELTER-SKELTER DOESN'T WORK.

You sir have been reported. You should have your fan card immediately and permanently revoked for this comment.

This just in from the shiny-shoes...

Totally unacceptable behavior and further instances of such will result in harsh penalties up to and including 3 hours of interpreting Mark May's rambles, trying to "run faster" while being hobbled by Dave Wannstedt's crutches, and listening to Sweet Caroline on repeat.

We hope to neither see nor hear of any further instances of misbehavior from you. You should know you are now on double-secret probation.

Sincerely,
The WVU Fanbase

Come on, this guy is an older gentleman that spent his working life in the newspaper business. Why give him a hard time? Do you also pick on small children and women?

NOT "EVERYONE KNOWS." IF YOU KNOW, IGNORE OR DELETE. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW, READ IT. IF YOU DON'T GIVE A DAMN, MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE. I JUST POST INFORMATION AND MY OPINION. ISN'T THAT WHAT EVERYONE HERE, INCLUDING 52AGAIN, DO? BUT I'M THE ONLY ONE NOT ALLOWED TO DO IT? OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT AIMED AT MITCH D.

But it did. And it has, often. This has been a theme for WVU's offense for the last several years, closer to the last decade than not. WVU has been pedestrian at best on offense since Desean Butler.

Posters here are quick to castigate Brown's pathetic offense production, Huggins should not get a pass, either. His teams have been downright embarrassing to watch on offense. Sub 30% shooting from the floor and multi-minute scoring draughts are the norm, not the exception. If any other coach in America continuously failed to put together a competent offense year in, year out everyone here would rightfully question just what in the hell he's thinking. Like with Brown, but Huggins gets a pass just.....because?

14 seasons:
310 wins, 171 losses
9 20+ win seasons
1 Big East Championship
3 Big 12 runner up
10 NCAA tournament appearances. (11 in all reality as WVU was going to make the field in 2020 before <an unspecified virus of unknown origin> scrapped the whole post season.
4 Sweet 16 appearances
1 Final Four appearance.

I agree that Huggins has a pattern of poor offense, especially in the half court. I also fail to see why Huggins seems to refuse trying something different in the half court offense as if it detracts from the team's focus of tough defense. That being said, the above track record obviously shows why Huggins gets more leeway than Neal Brown. Huggins style generally delivers a win/loss record higher than expected.

NAILED IT. ACTIONS AND PERFORMANCE ARE WHAT COUNT AND HUGGINS GETS AN A+ FROM ME ON THAT COUNT. BEST BASKETBALL COACH WVU HAS EVER HAD ALTHOUGH FRED SCHAUS IS A REALLY CLOSE 2ND.

You are correct as to WVU's two best coaches, but have them in the wrong order. The numbers, which you claim to love, tell me so. Fred Schaus was 146-37 at WVU, and made it further in the NCAA Tournament than any other WVU coach in history. He's #1.

P.S. Shaus was a better player, too.
