Yes...................the #11 ranked Mountaineers are looking good so far. Where are all the fans on this here board today?
I felt the big part of the game was when they started cutting in to the lead in the 2nd half and the refs whistled us for 7 fouls in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half....Huggs went nuts on the officials and we suddenly started seeing some calls on our end as well.
We did this today with Esa in foul trouble and Jevon in foul trouble. Plus Macon was out, but Kanate turned my head offensively. He scored something like 12 points......and when was last time Macon scored 12 points? I think Kanate and Watkins scored a combined 21 points? If those two can do that, then missing Devon Williams will be less than expected....
Watkins ran so many minutes only because Konate could not box out on a free throw.. there was a play in the last game he had perfect weak side offensive rebound position and let a guy push him out.. if he could somehow get that Kevin Jones or even Devin Williams rebound toughness he will be incredibly tough
Point #1: He's a freshman
Point #2: 12 Points 3 rebounds in 13 minutes; Watkins 9 points 5 rebounds in 25 minutes.
I'm not arguing stats.. they both gave great minutes today. Just stating if he can clean up his rebounding in certain areas he will be hard to take off of the floor. With his size and lateral movement it should be difficult to beat him on 2 or 3 straight free throw misses
Nice to see Watkins have some good games though. He and Konate were huge with Macon out and Ahmad with foul trouble.
