You know who I really feel bad for?

The Sun Belt schools that are about have players poached on National Signing Day because we whiffed on our big in-state targets. No, really, its the perfect storm of recruiting failure - having the majority of your the big-time recruits wait until signing day only to sign elsewhere. Mullen really got pants-ed.

We might as well steal that QB that Hughes signed at Jackson State who had

offers from Louisville, La Tech, and Memphis. It'll be a huge F U to Hughes and will strengthen Mullen's ego.

We can turn him into a RB, TE, or a left tackle. Whatever. We will coach him up.

Damn, so that is why we have to play AT Louisiana Tech (2008) and AT Troy (2012) and AT South Alabama (2014) and AT Southern Miss to try to make it up to the non - Power 5 conference schools that we screwed over during National Signing Day.**

I think that the icing on the cake (the big-time recruits) has been spread a little thin this year.
Improvement of the B1G and BX11
Resurgence of UF
Ogre to LSU
Richt to Miami
Muskchamp to USCe**

But you are right that Merlin needed to have locked up a centerpiece this summer.

I know it's not your real point here, but this is why I think recruiting needs a huge overhaul. The musical chairs created by committable vs. uncommittable offers and verbal commitments creates a bullwhip effect that hurts programs more and more the further down the ladder you go. Then there are recruits who are hurt too, like the Bama kid who was told he'd have to greyshirt a few days ago. I think for starters there needs to be a further scholarship reduction, an early signing period, and some system to make commitments, both on the part of the recruits and the programs, actually mean something.

The only thing Mullen is mulling over is whether he can get anyone in for a visit this weekend...
