You may not agree...injuries may be blessings?

I was not too upset about Harry's condition, but my breathing changed a bit with Jayson's foot. HOWEVER, this team is stacked solid. Step up Javin! Step up Amile! Step up Chase! Step up Matt! ...
Let's see what the next man up will do.

This team will be fine...for now?

I don't think an injury is ever a blessing but I get your point about others stepping up. What worries me about an injury is the time it takes to properly heal.

I don't agree about injuries being blessings, but they can certainly have a silver lining. I think maybe that is what you're saying...but just a little differently.

The notion that injuries are a blessing is something you say after someone gets injured. That doesn't make it true.

Case in point, having two star freshmen like Giles and Tatum hurt is only a bad thing. My reasoning? They're trying to 1) adjust to the college game themselves, and 2) adjust to playing with their teammates in real, live action.

Basically, in this situation I don't think there's any kind of "blessing" whatsoever....and that's assuming an injury is ever a blessing.

An injury is most certainly never ever ever ever a blessing. Just ask anyone that has ever been injured.

I somewhat understand the point you're trying to make, but it's a stretch. Especially for this team. I get "next man up" and that it gives other guys some playing time maybe that they might not have gotten. On the flip side of that is when these guys do come back, you now have to restart and rebuild chemistry and cohesiveness with the new unit. Trying to do that isn't always easy when you're bringing back one star player let alone two.

Injuries may be a silver lining or even a blessing when a rotation is fluid and you need guys who realistically may be counted on to play important minutes later in the year to "get reps in" earlier than expected. That is simply not the case with this team. We are loaded, absolutely loaded and the guys like Javin or Jack or some other fringe player who would reap the extra minutes available will simply not be playing important minutes later in the year. The best thing for this year's team is getting Harry and Jayson acclimated to the college game and getting serious game minutes in with his new teamates so that this team can grow as one and be the best finished product come March. In other scenarios I would agree with this silver lining/blessing point, but IMO it doesn't fit this roster.

I agree with the chemistry and cohesiveness, but there is enough talent and experience where Duke should not miss a beat.

Sure but that isn't the point. Yes we should win those games but trying to integrate an elite talent after a team has formed its identity is not the easiest thing in the world. See 2011. Luckily for us, both Harry and Jayson will be ready very very early (even the start for Jayson maybe).

Like most, I disagree that an injury to a player is ever a blessing but I can see an injury to a player having a silver lining in the sense that it gives other players lower in the rotation more playing time to develop and improve while the injured player is on the sidelines.

I understand your direction of the post but the injuries to Harry and Jayson are only blessings to our opponents. If Harry had been playing all year instead of rehabbing and Jayson stayed 100 % healthy , this team would be looking horrifying to the entire nation right now. Anyone who shows up here and says different is a liar. And yes, I think they both get on track but you just can't make up the time lost. If both heal and return to form, this team is going to coast through many games.

No one wants an injury to deter the career or the development of a player, however, this is a team sport. And if that means Bolden, White, Chase, Javin or Antonio's development will progress and the team does not lose a beat, then great for Duke. Its not the best thing that a player grows at the expense of another's tragedy, but Amile going down did a great deal for Marshall getting a NBA deal.

Being a Duke fan is a blessing. Can't wait to see a fully healthy team heading into March. For now we watch the magic of a K led team mature in front of our eyes. It's great to be a devil in blue.

The Marshall thing is a maybe at best. It's not like he got drafted. Being 7', athletic and willing to do anything for the team and most importantly his hard work earned him a contract.

I get what you're saying, but we are talking about what's best for the team as well. And when you have an elite talent out for a long time, trying to integrate them back into the fold isn't easy because it means someone else has to sacrifice theirs and tweak their roles to accommodate that new star talent coming in.

Don't downplay Amile's absence, many scouts were watching Grayson and Brandon, but looked twice at Marshall. Very similar when Darren Collison went down and an animal named Russell Westbrook went crazy!

I'll give some another reason why injuries are never good.

The training room and rehab absolutely sucks. It wears on you mentally, and as true frosh, the last thing they need is the extra burden of rehabbing and going to the training room daily or multiple times a day.

A pulled then partially torn hamstring ended my playing career. Not that I couldn't come back, I actually did and almost walked on the football team (different sport that what I was recruited for). But I stopped because I absolutely didn't want to spend any more time in the training room and rehabbing, and having them push you back as fast as possible. I know this won't happen with Harry and Jayson at Duke, but injuries are never good.

I also can see where the OP is coming from. The ability of reserves to get first team reps and develop is helpful. I also agree as was stated above, that it is more of a silver lining than a good thing. Just my opinion.

These beginning games are the best to get young players adjusted to the college game and overall to build team chemistry. No blessings here and I'm sure the hurt players wouldn't agree either

Give me Amile, Javin, Grayson, Luke and Frank in crunch time. Chase, Jack and Matt are plenty off the bench. We are so deep.
