A fantastic lengthy article today in the MN Star Tribune on Chloe Johnson. A very interesting read beyond the usual stuff about an exceptional young Bb player. Not to pile expectations on her, but this 5’11” 14 y.o. point guard is extremely driven and sure sounds like the next “Caitlyn Clark-like” talent. It is going to be a massive recruiting battle for her. Not sure if Iowa has offered a scholarship, but in the Big Ten alone, Gophers, Wisconsin, Maryland and MSU already have. It sounds like she holds 8 scholarship offers to date.

Jensen from nationally renowned All Iowa Attack already put the current 8th grader on his top team. He didn’t even do it that early with Caitlyn Clark, who joined All Iowa Attack the summer before her freshman year. I hope that connection for her gives Iowa some leverage in recruiting her.

Good story. She'd need to be somewhere that they can manage her mental health. Travel, strangers, social media, idiot fans, mean fans. That's a lot to deal with or without her additional needs. I'd hope she could play locally for her so that her mom and dad could be there.

Thank you so much for sharing this article. This is the clearest description I’ve seen of OCD in a journalistic piece. Have a loved one who has struggled with and overcome it for the most part. “Paralyzing” is the appropriate word. It unnecessarily aggravates me to no end when folks talk of “being OCD” about their preferred pen or wanting to keep the house dusted. I can tell you UI & UIHC has been out in front on the disorder for over 30 years. I love that the family got some of the help they needed from a prior Star-Tribune piece on another athlete living with OCD. This girl is going to be a superstar with that level of razor-sharp focus on something that grants her merciful relief. Going to root for and follow her even if she doesn’t come our way. Thanks again! ✌️

Gardner-Webb, Minnesota-Duluth, Michigan State, Minnesota, St Thomas, Maryland, Wisconsin and Marquette.
Very interesting group. A bunch of middling or borderline irrelevant schools....and then Maryland. Maryland is trending down, but Frese knows talent. You'd think there'd be at least an offer from Michigan, Ohio State, or Iowa if she was that special already. Bluder is likely holding off because she knows that she has a chance to raise the bar. Same reason she never offered Ava Zediker, IMO.

The class of 2024 is great but 3 of the 5 commits are really only just above average and she is hoping for more elite classes in 2025 and beyond. Johnson sounds like the kind of recruit she would have normally offered early but is now slow-playing because she is hopeful she can land some Top 25 caliber kids. If she offered now, Iowa would easily be the best offer on that kid's plate, Bluder likely doesn't feel the need to give up a spot for that class just yet to a kid without offers from Top 10 programs.

You can raise the bar above the girl that in the early rankings is ranked #1 in her class?

Let's see what happens with her offer when she moves past junior high.

Rankings at this age really don't mean much. For example, Jenica Lewis was also #1 at one point but is now #26 according to ESPN. That might not even qualify her as a McDonald's AA. We shall see.

Hate to break it to you...but going from 1 to 26 isn't a large drop off.

When it come to Chloe...I have watched a few games, many clips, and numerous interviews. Just my gut feeling is that she is going to be something amazing when she gets to college.

Chloe likely has an offer from Iowa now
as she was recently in IC for a basketball
game. I would love for her to come to Iowa and to commit early.
Go Hawks!!!
