Grunk?!?!?

Does this give you a good enough core for the next coach? With portal and recruiting in mind.
We need O Linemen like Cousins, Shanahan, Williams and Brown ('26 commit).

Cam Wallace, Mickens ('26 recruit)

Denmark
Tatsch

Not sure Grunk is that critical.

One thing nice is coaches are now playing young guys and some are making plays already. Get some film on them and who the next coach wants to keep.

Everything depends on who is hired and when.
Exactly. The longer it takes to hire someone, the cupboard could be completely emptied except for walk-ons. That is the nightmare scenario. Then the incoming coach would have to start with nothing, hoping he could get maybe a few mediocre players from other schools through the portal.

That's the likely scenario.

I think there is enough there with Grunk to retain him and let him compete for the starter role. He is doing better than Allar while dealing with the broken AK offensive scheme.

Yes. I agree. But some seem to think the portal is some magical potion that delivers instant talent and success and good team chemistry.

I think you assume the roster will be completely gone. Unless somebody is committed truly to Penn State the school, there is likely a home for them on a roster elsewhere that will be a better opportunity than living through what might be a 2-4 year rebuild. Kraft had better make up his mind as soon as the regular season ends (2 weeks)... It will be telling if they do manage to win out and get a bowl bid how many players opt out and move on. Unless there is a white knight coach that rides in to save the day I am bracing for the possibility that our football program will be as bad as our MBB program at least for a few seasons. Hats off to Terry Smith for managing this storm and putting out the dumpster fire but the embers are still smoldering and could reignite soon. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they can hang on to some talent but I'm preparing for the worst.

Silly talk. When we get a coach and recruiting etc is over then chat it up.
Kirby smart. Great quote.
This should be broadcast to every coach and player.

“I don’t know that a lot of these kids nowadays, they want the check," Smart said. “They don’t want physicality. When you have the check and no physicality, you end up with nothing. So you’re not just getting checks at our place, we’re hitting people.”

You all are way too worried about the timing
How many programs that fired their current coach have named their next HC?
There's tons of time before the portal opens

With revenue sharing, even mid-tier schools will be able to retain (pay) their top players; that means that stocking a depleted roster with transfers is unlikely to yield the kind of blue chip ratio that leads to competitive team (beyond a mid to low tier B10 Team). Unlike Florida, Penn State's 2026 recruit has taken a nose dive. Florida has held steady at 13 while PSU's has cratered to 22 and will drop more once Mickens commits to Oklahoma and Brown to Ohio State. Depending on the coach (and school) there will be an influx of some talent but not enough to yield a competitive roster. Also, the stronger the program the less likely players will follow.

Eyeroll..... you know-it-alls make these sweeping statements like "players you must keep" - gee, tell me Mr. Know Everything, just wtf is "you"??? Because in case you hadn't noticed, there is no "you" at the current time as PSU fired "you" as many of you know-it-alls wanted. "You" has a better chance of having most of these players play for him next year than PSU, who is currently "you"-less, does of having them in a PSU uniform.

Again, Cignetti at Indiana objectively proves your claims to be false. Wildly false - you're claiming they can't even be competitive, when Indiana has been far more than "competitive" the last two years.

The reality is that you have no idea how successful PSU can be with a good hire who brings a lot of D1A quality talent with him. Cignetti brought ZERO "blue chip recruits" with him and Indiana's roster fails your claims this year as well, but contrary to your claims, they are lightyears more competitive than your silly know-it-all drivel.

The offensive production probably wouldn’t have been any better with Allar in the games that has missed, which I think tells you what a disappointment he turned out to be.

Allar probably would have been better than Grunk but the mere fact that it can be debated tells you all you need to know. He was supposed to be a top 5 college QB this season and first rd draft pick. He didn't play remotely close to that. Huge disappointment along with AK's play calling.

Again, can anyone explain wtf "you" is in the "Young giys you MUST keep"???? There is no "you" right now and by the time there is a "you", all of the "Young guys" referenced are going to be long gone having followed the old coach who recruited them to his new home or gone elsewhere. Perhaps he should send his absurd missive to Krafty so he can share his grand plan for success in this area.

It can’t be debated except by someone who just wants it to be true. There is not one shred of evidence that says that Grunk has been better than Allar.

They are all leaving so hope that we get a HC soon because it might be a challenge to field a team next season.
