Your Defination of a Red Neck and of Hillbilly

I'm interested to see whether most of us use those terms in similar ways.
For me:
"Country folk" is a rural, religious, self-reserved type of person; "redneck" is the same except louder, less genteel, and tends to make their surroundings worse than they would be otherwise (that is, if you walk into a "country folk" barn, everything is tidy and well-kempt, as opposed to a redneck's barn/property that is stuffed with all types of junk and half-completed "projects")
I have less experience with "hillbilly" (since all of my family is from Central/Western KY), but I consider it analogous to the above. Country folk:Redneck::Mountainmen:hillbillies
EDIT: If you're on the dole and don't live in a major city, you're automatically a redneck or hillbilly, IMO

To me a hillbilly is more about a way of life. A redneck is more about the choices you make. Like for instance people living up in the mountains that survive off the land and animals that they hunt. They may not have a lot of what we in the city think of as essentials, but they make it work.
A redneck is the guy you see driving to Walmart with the truck nuts hanging on the back of his trailer hitch while spitting tobacco juice into a Mountain Dew bottle. He goes into the store with his obese wife, who is to lazy to walk so she gets on one of the hoverounds and lets the kids run around like they are in Chuck E Cheese.

You just described white trash, something rednecks and hillbillies both look down upon.
I think white trash is just a branch off the redneck tree. Much worse than your standard redneck, but with some similarities. Like I said, I think a redneck is about a choice and white trash is as well. Although they are about much worse choices.
Redneck is wallowing in ignorance proudly and arrogantly in rural wooded locations while denouncing anything you do not understand and aggressively hating on anyone not nearly as dumb as you are.

White Trash is all the properties of Hillbilly plus add a healthy aversion to any kind of work, a gleeful pajama wearing shopping trip to Walmart, and all manner of scams to collect welfare, fake injury for disability/lawsuits, and use drugs no matter the consequences to your health and appearance.

There are rednecks in towns and even small cities. Rednecks are loud & obnoxious (hey look at me) and often do things for-show (to make a point of how different they are), and self-centered.
Hillbillies are very rural, want to keep to themselves (or "their people"), and live a simple life, and mostly are good people.

Someone who spells definition defination is a redneck, that's all I know.
Whenever I hear the word redneck I think of the hateful and ignorant type. The moron that is always ready to fight.
To me, "hillbilly" is more about where you are from while "redneck" is more of a state of mind or attitude.
I agree with this. The first and foremost descriptor of a redneck is willful ignorance.
Hillbilly is used describe oneself in a comical manner, or a word yankees use to get their *** beat.
Here is what I can tell you. Loud mufflers that were intentionally put there to make loud noise is redneck. When I was little and someone would peel out and out the pedal to the metal and the muffler would make that noise my dad would exclaim "rednecker"!

hillbilly folk are a breed that is wild, they liable to gouge your eyeballs out your face, you ever seen a hillbilly boy tie hang a deer from the ceiling of his garage and go to town cutting that sob up like it was a life or death situation?
White trash is an adjective to describe a weak disoriented person that smells bad and is in humane , these people smell like rotten Bologna and dead fish.
there are people of all Coles and races that could be described as white trash and they are bad stinky gross nasty as ish too
Being from London, KY I would go with several people here and say a redneck has a little bit of that in your face, loud and proud thing going on. A hillbilly is just a simpler person who is quite content with their life in the rural mountains. White trash are the SSI folks who drive 15-20 year old minivans to Wal-Mart from their trailer and never wear anything but sweat pants. They are either obese or do drugs.
Yankee- loud, ill mannered dumbasses from the North lacking in common sense and driving skills who think that their slightly more educated vocabulary makes them superior to all others when in fact outside of urban areas they are lost and lacking in skill developement in how to sustain themselves.
You hear them having a conversation where they tell someone about a bit of wisdom they tried to drop on someone. It always starts "Hell, I told 'em..." . That is a good indicator that they are probably a redneck

I always thought "hillbilly" was a dated term referring to people in the rural, isolated parts of the Appalachians and Ozarks.
The isolation from changes on the outside world, general poverty and lack of education.
Also the dialect and songs are influenced by the Scots and Irish Elizabeth English.
Rednecks are more of a culture not defined by wealth or education and can be found thoughout the United States.

Nah not really just saying there are dumbasses everywhere they just go by different labels. Whats the difference in a white guy that lives in a ****** mobile home, gets a government check, has a bunch of kids running around, broke down cars in the front yard, obese wife, 500 dollar truck with 2k lift kit...and a black guy that lives in Govt housing, gets a govt check, bunch of kids running around, 500 dollar car with 2k rims, obese baby momma and thousands of dollars of gold in his mouth? One is a redneck and the other is "ghettofabulous" but really arent they both the same on principals by which they live?
