I had this card in 1969 and didn’t know who the hell Ron Thompkins was so I cut the card in half and threw him away.

nothing for me. But my dad idolized Mickey Mantle and had every Mantle baseball card he could find growing up. Then when he moved out my Granny threw them all away

This isn’t sports related, but I had a friend who had what is now a rare Pokémon card worth hundred of thousands of dollars... but like you he didn’t like the character so he traded the card while in middle school.

I don't collect sports memorabilia, but I have a ball autographed by Manure Bol.

I grew up in the 70s and had tons of baseball cards. I remember plenty from the Big Red Machine and other big players; surely a few rookie cards in there. When I came home from college one summer, found out that my mother had sold them at a yard sale. Filled several brown paper lunch bags with them and sold THE WHOLE BAGS for 25 cents each.

Mom allowed me to buy the 85 (?) Eric Davis rookie card for the exorbitant price of four American dollars. It was my baby. Then my older friend convinced me to trade it to him for about 12 or so common cards of various Reds from the early 80s.

Mom was furious at me for wasting the hard earned money. So she called his mom and made him trade me back. So embarrassing. He ended up being a minister later in life. I like to think that we helped him turn around his life of mischief and duplicity.

(just kidding. I was just dumb)

Also, as a young 'un around 8 or so years old, Charles Hurt came to my church. He autographed my bulletin for me. It was raining when we left and, despite my best efforts, a few drops smudged his signature. It probably would have been no big deal until dumba## me decided to 'trace' his signature to make it look better. LOL

Collected baseball cards like crazy back in 70s. Pitched them all when I was in high school.
