Watched his film. I'm impressed with some of the throws he made and plays he kept alive with his instinct, quickness, and athleticism.

My question is will we convert him to a full-time WR/RB or will we utilize his feet and ability to make passes (plus put him through some training with Hinshaw) and make him serviceable as a Wildcat threat?

His technique needs some work, but he can make some decent passes. 60.1% completion and 23 passing TD's to 7 INT's. He is good for 5.9 YPC. I don't know why this option isn't being discussed so I figured I'd bring it up here.

Not saying he is Randall Cobb, but he could play a similar role to Cobb: mostly a wide receiver but burns opponents by taking snaps.

What say you?

Like a lot of the Paducah area kids over the years, he's better than his Rivals ranking indicates. IMHO.

Could he play DT QB @ UK? Possibly.
Could he run the wildcat? Absolutely.

He may not be a Randall Cobb, but he does sorta remind me of Keenan Burton.

I'm guessing that he plays WR, but the kid is pretty versatile.

I feel the same way. I think because he's been solid for so long and we haven't worried about him moving past UK, he's slipped through the cracks. He's a great talent, though.

Hughes is not a Randall Cobb at all to me. Randall was a strong/stocky kid with unreal quickness and burst. Randall ran thru so many arm tackles and was elite at making guys take angles to tackle him and when a defensive player was off balance...he'd run right past him.

Hughes is a slender fast kid...but not a big time runner to break tackles...more outruns people. I like the Keenan Burton comparison.

I have no idea what Gran will want to do, with Hughes or anybody else for that matter. However, if he does want to do any QB run stuff, it won't be with Barker. We have not seen enough of Barker to know what he can do but we have seen enough to know he is not a real threat as a runner.

Peace

With his quickness and football savvy, he could be a pretty good FS. I don't see Cobb or Keenan. Keenan had the stride of a gazelle and Cobb burst was unreal. Hughes has a nice burst, but I don't see him getting by SEC DBs at WR. I think he could be a starter for us in the future in the secondary. Just my opinion though.

Said he could play a Cobb-esque role. Not that he was Cobb. Nobody will be a Cobb. Cobb.

I like the play where a RB or WR can make an accurate throw, it's a real wrinkle when you are running the Wildcat.

UK is notorious for being accurate on their 40 yard times for players, and Hughes ran a 4.4 flat after his sophomore year during a summer camp, which was the fastest all summer among high school kids. The kid is a jet. Also broke a backboard in a basketball game last year. Very, very underrated athlete.

agree... looked a step slower than PT to me... we don't have and haven't had QB that make a lot of plays with their feet as a rule.....

I like this. The kid looks like a baller. Whether he has the hands to play WR, I do not know, but I sure am happy the staff made him a focal point early.

JP you should see Zy'Air play in person, a very gifted athlete. I believe he could benefit from a red-shirt, just my opinion. Get a little stronger as I'm not sure he's ready for the physicality of the SEC yet. If he plays and succeeds then all the raving I've done for him this year was true.

I'll say this he was under recruited and we should be thankful for that. Can play almost anywhere but will play offense for sure. Watched him grow up and wish him the best.

I'm super excited to see if Hughes can get some help from Hinshaw and become that new wrinkle that so often destroys us. I don't even know the guy, but given our luck with PadT guys, this is an athlete we'll want to watch very closely.

^ This. He's underrated & is plenty athletic enough to be a special SEC WR.

He should get the opportunity for a RS year. UK adds three big WRs to next year's rotation (2 RS fresh and a Juco). Hughes can take the year getting SEC strong and acclimated.

he plays wr at all the summer camps and has performed well there with catching. he'll rs and add some strength and get to work on route running and agree he could be a keenan burton type guy for us.

Being from Paducah I have watched nearly every game he has played at Lone Oak and McCracken County. He started as a dual threat QB and finished as WR/RB. His High School Coaches just tried to get him the ball in space as often as possible. He is a quality athlete with legit 4.4 speed. Has a little trouble holding on to the ball simply because he tries to do to much. He will need a RS and play WR in college. He definitely could help in the return game and wildcat if Gran chooses to use that.

JMG, any underclassmen there at McCracken Co Hs or at Tilghman with SEC potential, in your opinion?

Skyler Mayes will be a top 10 player in the state in 2 years that I know UK is looking at. He plays defense for McCracken County. He is only a sophomore but is already being looked at by many FBS schools. Paducah Tilghman always has good athletes but I haven't heard any that UK is definitely after. Josh Forrest and J D Harmon came from there so I know they keep up with them regularly.

What are Skyler Mays measureables? Like his time, weight, height, what type of frame etc.

He is a LB/DE. Don't know his measure ables other than he is a big kid that will continue to grow. He played well as a sophomore against 6A compitition. He was on a top 50 list in the country for sophomores.
