Alabama quarterback Eli Holstein enters the transfer portal
Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Eli Holstein has entered the transfer portal, On3 has learned.
In one season with the Crimson Tide, Holstein found a log jam at the quarterback position. He came in with another highly touted freshman quarterback, Dylan Lonergan. Both of them were behind Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner on Alabama’s depth chart to back up starting quarterback Jalen Milroe, who is returning for the 2024 season after coming up short in the College Football Playoff during the 2023 season.
Holstein did not register a pass during the 2023 season. However, he did put up massive numbers in high school, throwing for 7,014 yards, 62 touchdowns, and just 13 interceptions as a three-year starter. Despite not playing in 2023, that experience and talent is still there.
Eli Holstein played high school football at Zachary (LA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 84 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
