Urban Meyer Discusses Alabama's QB Situation | If He Would Stay with Jalen Milroe over Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner

It has been a rollercoaster two weeks for Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. He started the season with a great performance versus Middle Tennessee.

Pundits and analysts around the country quickly named him as the starter for the rest of the season, someone who is on his way to being the next great quarterback at the school.

But after struggling against Texas in a devastating loss for the Crimson Tide, the narrative has quickly changed around the redshirt sophomore signal-caller.

On this week’s episode of Urban’s Take with Tim May, Tim May asked Urban Meyer about his experience with tricky quarterback and his read on the situation facing Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

“I watched that game,” Meyer said. “What a talented player, but just he struggles consistently throwing the ball. There were guys open and, and (he was) unable to hit him. I can’t remember who they play this week, but any time you lose a game, especially at places like Ohio State or Alabama, you gotta reset everything. It’s unfortunate. It’s just the way it is. Life in the big city. You lose a game and everything’s got to be re-checked. You know, what happened?”

Milroe was 14 of 27 for 255 yards with two touchdowns and two picks versus the Longhorns. He also ran the ball 15 times but only for 44 yards.

There are other quarterbacks in the Alabama system, Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson, who pushed for the starting job in camp who may be next in line if Milroe struggles again soon.

The Crimson Tide have some time to readjust with a game versus USF this week but a matchup with a ranked Ole Miss team looks in the distance. But quarterback won’t be the only thing they need to figure out before hitting the SEC schedule.

Meyer made a point to say it is not just questions surrounding the quarterback position that raises some red flags. After allowing the Longhorns to score 34 points and 454 yards of offense — headlined by Quinn Ewers throwing for 349 yards and three touchdowns — the Alabama defense has not things to figure out too.

“You’re talking about their quarterback, there are some issues there, but I’ll tell you that defense, Texas ran through that defense and that’s Alabama defense,” Meyer said.” I was watching that going, my gosh. They’re behind them. They’re running the ball at them. You know how I feel about Texas. They got to reset everything in Alabama right now.”
