Nine days after officially launching, Arizona State-focused Sun Angel Collective has reached its first major NIL agreement. ASU quarterback Emory Jones announced Thursday he’s part of Sun Angel Collective. He revealed the NIL partnership in a social media post.

“Excited to be a part of the Sun Angel Collective and connect with fans,” Jones said.

Jones officially transferred from Florida to Arizona State in May. And even then, there were reports a NIL deal was in the works. According to Sun Devil Source’s Chris Karpman, Jones was set to sign a deal with an ASU collective worth $75,000. The quarterback reportedly would also get a vehicle from Jones Auto Centers as part of the deal.

Yet, Arizona State didn’t officially have a collective announced at the time. The Sun Angel Collective was formally unveiled on Aug. 2. Jones also implored fans to support the team’s NIL efforts in a social media post on July 25.

The Sun Angel Collective says it secured more than $1,000,000 in pre-launch financial commitments from individual boosters and organizations. The group also plans to file an application with the IRS to operate as a 501(c)(3) public charity, mirroring other tax-exempt collectives across the country.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to support our student-athletes while at the same time helping out local nonprofits,” Sun Angel Collective president Jeff Burg said. “The collective offers fans, donors and brands the opportunity to engage with our student-athletes in new ways, whether they want to contribute $10 or $10,000,000.”

Emory Jones arrives at ASU with big resume

Emory Jones, a former On3 Consensus four-star quarterback, saw the majority of snaps last season for the Gators.

Jones showed great flashes at times last year. But in the end, he struggled with inconsistency. He completed 67.7% of his passes for 2,563 yards, 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in the regular season. Jones also added 133 rushing attempts for 697 yards and four touchdowns. However, his 13 interceptions were the most among all quarterbacks in the SEC.

In his collegiate career, Jones has thrown for 3,176 yards, 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with 1,211 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground.

Jones is battling redshirt junior and Alabama transfer Paul Tyson for the starting quarterback job at ASU.

“That’s what we all signed up for,” Jones said of the quarterback competition last week. “That’s what I enjoy. So, I’m ready to get going so we can start competing.”

Emory Jones currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $275,000. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. The On3 NIL Valuation calculates the optimized NIL opportunity for athletes relative to the overall NIL market and projects out to as long as 12 months into the future. He also is No. 146 in the On3 College Football NIL Ranking.
