J.D.'s CFP Rankings After Week 8

Something finally gave in Fayetteville as Arkansas and OC Dan Enos parted ways on Sunday following the Razorback’s sixth straight loss this season. It’s going to cost the program, though, based on the figures regarding his short-lived contract.

Steve Berkowitz of USA Today shared the numbers in relation to Enos’ buyout in a tweet on Sunday. The deal, which was set to run through the end of the 2025 campaign, will lead Arkansas to owe him a buyout worth $2.8 million, about $725,000 less than the entire contract was worth for the three seasons.

Enos was Sam Pittman’s selection to replace Kendal Briles as offensive coordinator back in January. This came after he had previously spent time with the ‘Hogs from 2015 to 2017 under Bret Bielema.

However, this stretch of eight games was worse than his time back in the mid-2010s. In those three seasons, Arkansas averaged 31.7 points per game with finishes in the Top-65 in each year including the 27th-best offense in 2015. Through their 2-6 record in 2023, the Razorbacks are averaging 26.5 points as the No. 84 offense in the country.

That number has been worse during their six-game losing streak. Arkansas’ total scoring outputs have decreased over each game as they’ve averaged just 21.3 points and under 300 yards per game. That reached its worst of the season this weekend as they scored just three points and posted only 200 yards in their loss to Mississippi State.

Enos’ return to the Razorbacks was short-lived and will end up costing Arkansas through his buyout. The question now is, with four games to go, if more coaching changes could eventually be coming with the ‘Hogs.

More on Arkansas parting ways with Enos

Arkansas OC Dan Enos is out as a member of Sam Pittman staff’s after a 2-6 start to the season, On3’s Matt Zenitz reported on Sunday.

Wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton will take over as the play caller for the offense, the team announced.

“Arkansas Head Coach Sam Pittman has relieved offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dan Enos of his duties and he is no longer a member of the Razorbacks’ program effective immediately. Wide receivers coach and former Ohio State quarterback Kenny Guiton will take over play-calling duties for the Hogs for the remainder of the season,” Arkansas’ press release on the move said.

Guiton has been the wide receivers coach for the Razorbacks since the 2021 season. He joined the team from Colorado State, where he held the same position. The 32-year-old coach has only been a graduate assistant, quality control coach and wide receivers coach in his young coaching career.
