John Calipari On Kentucky's 63-57 Win Over Arkansas

The 2023-24 season has been a frustrating one at times for the Arkansas Razorbacks and head coach Eric Musselman.

One of the biggest issues that the Razorbacks have had this season is finding a consistent answer at point guard. That answer, as Musselman admitted after the team’s recent loss to Kentucky, is still one that Arkansas is searching for.

“We’ll just keep searching,” Eric Musselman said. “Like I said, we changed our style of play today and I thought it helped our defense. We changed some of our defensive schemes. I thought it really helped us. As the leader of the program, my job is to continue to tinker. I don’t have an answer for you right now on that or I would tell you.”

In the game against Kentucky, Musselman tried out Tramon Mark at the point. However, Musselman was concerned that it was not the best position for him to play in.

“We put T-Mark there for a while. That makes it difficult for him. He’s wired to score. We had turnovers from other guys. Fouls from other guys. We’ve just got to continue to search and, you know, find something.”

In the end, Arkansas lost to Kentucky 63-57. The Razorbacks played a small number of players, with only two players off the bench playing for more than 10 minutes in the game. Overall, it was a strong defensive effort but that didn’t translate to scoring on the offensive end.

Arkansas will look to get back on track on Wednesday with a road test against Missouri.

Eric Musselman believes Arkansas played best defense of season vs. Kentucky

Following the Kentucky game, Eric Musselman shared that one positive takeaway was the defense, which he thought was the best it had been all season.

“Well, I hope so. I thought following the gameplan tonight, I didn’t think we had guys just going off and doing whatever they wanted defensively. I thought we were extremely disciplined,” Musselman said.

“I thought there was two plays late in the second half where we got undisciplined and they hit two threes. But for sure I’m going to assume it’s our best defensive game of the year. I mean we lost the game, but I think they started off like 1-of-14. Our bigs were challenging everything. We were running them off the 3-point line. So yeah, it was a good defensive performance and it was not a good offensive performance.”
