Arkansas has been missing quarterback Kade Renfro this season. Expected to be a backup behind KJ Jefferson, Renfro tore his ACL at the end of the 2021 season and hasn’t been able to play since then. Now, head coach Sam Pittman has a new update on Renfro’s status.

The question came up due to a post made by Kade Renfro that he had surgery on his knee. This is the second surgery that he’s had to repair his ACL injury.

“I think it was during the Texas A&M week,” Sam Pittman said. “Just stepped and planted and [a] non-contact deal.”

“Swelled up on him a little bit. Didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I don’t think he did, and he couldn’t get the swelling off of it and found out that he had torn his ACL again. So, another misfortunate deal. A non-contact type situation. But, yes, he had an ACL again.”

Kade Renfro is a former three-star recruit from the Class of 2020 who originally went to Ole Miss.

Sam Pittman revealed Dominique Johnson’s injury

Dominique Johnson didn’t make the trip to Auburn. However, Sam Pittman didn’t explain why at the time. Now, we have an answer. He’s out for the season with a torn ACL.

“I appreciate y’all understanding I just didn’t feel like (Saturday) was the right time,” Sam Pittman said. “Last Tuesday or Monday, I think it might have been Tuesday, he made a cut on air and tore his ACL again. So it’s really unfortunate for the team and certainly for him. He actually practiced the next day and then he did not practice on Thursday. He went and got the MRI and then we found that out. It’s certainly disheartening for him because he had worked so hard to try to get back.”

Sam Pittman also said that Arkansas will use Dominique Johnson’s redshirt.
