Auburn could be without leading scorer Wendell Green due to injury for a few days. Green rolled his ankle in a 72-64 win over Georgia State on Wednesday night in the final minute of the game.

Coach Bruce Pearl provided a brief update on his status following the game.

“Wendell turned his ankle and will be evaluated,” Pearl said, according to a report by Justin Ferguson of The Auburn Observer. “Probably will be out a couple more days.”

Green appeared to get his right ankle caught under Georgia State forward Ja’Heim Hudson‘s foot as a play developed on the defensive end of the floor for Auburn, and his ankle rolled as he went to the floor.

Trainers took off Green’s shoe before helping him to the locker room, according to a report from Callie Stanford, an intern for Opelika-Auburn News.

Prior to exiting the game in the final minute, Green had chipped in 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in the win for the Tigers.

Wendell Green injury sidelines Auburn’s leading scorer

Before Wendell Green’s injury, he was leading Auburn in scoring and assists this season, averaging 13.4 points and 3.9 assists per game. He also averages 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Along with Green, the Auburn backcourt has been powered by the likes of guards KD Johnson (10.9 PPG), Allen Flanigan (8.3 PPG) and Zep Jasper (3.7 PPG).

Pearl indicated that freshman guard Tre Donaldson will likely have to step up in a major way with Green limited or out for the next few days. Donaldson is averaging 1.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in 8.6 minutes per contest so far this season, appearing in seven of the team’s 10 games so far.

“He will play some more,” Pearl said, according to Ferguson. “He’ll play some more. He probably will back up Wen, and we’ll see. I played him some at the 2 tonight because he was playing so well.”

Auburn will return to action on Sunday with a road trip to USC. The Tigers and Trojans are slated for a 5:30 p.m. ET tip on ESPN.
