Baylor guard Keyonte George will not play Monday against Oklahoma State, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. George suffered an ankle injury early and did not return Saturday in an 81-72 victory against No. 8 Texas.

George is listed as day-to-day according to Rothstein. A five-star freshman, he has been huge for the Bears this season, leading the team with 16.3 points in addition to 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists across 29 starts.

Monday will mark the first game George has missed all season. With Baylor (21-8, 10-6 Big 12) already a lock for the NCAA Tournament according to ESPN, it seems the smart decision for the Bears to give George some rest before the final game of the regular season.

Oklahoma State (16-13, 7-9 Big 12) enters Monday’s game in desperate need of a win following three straight losses. The Cowboys currently find themselves among the “last four in” according to the NCAA Tournament projections of ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

Tip off for the game is set for 8 p.m. CT on Monday in Stillwater.

Timmy Allen details challenge of guarding Keyonte George

Details. Details. Details.

That’s what it will take to guard Baylor‘s superstar freshman Keyonte George, according to Texas forward Timmy Allen. George will get his shots — and make them — and it’s Allen’s job to halt what has been an unstoppable force all season long.

“Keyonte is a great player. I love playing against him,” Allen said Thursday. “Obviously he’s the ultimate scorer, the ultimate player. He has a ceiling as high as anybody, but I love the matchup. I love the assignment. I really just need to hone in on the scouting report and what I need to do with his tendencies and where he likes to get his specific shots off from and try not to let him get any clean looks.

“Every shot he shoots you think is going to go in. If you see him shoot in warmups, every shot is just on top of the rim. He’s not missing — he’s got something when it comes to that. With him, you’ve just got to try and make it hard.”

Those comments from Allen came ahead of Saturday’s game between Texas and Baylor. Unfortunately, George played just six minutes in that contest before suffering the injury, finishing with just one rebound.
