Baylor hires former longtime TCU assistant Jarrett Anderson as tight ends coach
The Baylor Bears have lured a longtime TCU assistant to their football coaching staff. On Thursday evening, multiple media outlets reported that Baylor hired Jarrett Anderson as their next tight ends coach. He spent 24 seasons with the Horned Frogs. Anderson also was an assistant offensive line coach for the UTSA Roadrunners last year.
During his time with TCU, he also served as their co-offensive coordinator for five seasons. “We are very pleased to add Jarrett to our coaching staff,” Dave Aranda said in the press release issued by Baylor. “Jarrett has a great understanding of football in our state and has the respect of the Texas High School Coaches Association. He brings a vast knowledge of offensive football to our staff, having coached a variety of position groups and having coordinated elite collegiate offenses. He will be an immediate asset to our talented tight-end room and our entire coaching staff.”
He’ll look to improve the Baylor offense, which only scored 23.1 points per game last year, ranking 101 out of 133 qualifying teams.
Anderson has coached several different position groups over the years, tight ends, offensive line, running backs, and wide receivers. He has over 25 years of college football coaching experience. Anderson was the co-offensive coordinator with the Horned Frogs from 2009-2013, helping TCU shatter a number of school records.
In both of his first two seasons as the offensive coordinator, the Horned Frogs set school records for touchdowns, points scored, and first downs, while also ranking among the most productive units in the country. During those two seasons, TCU won 25 of 26 games and made back-to-back appearances in BCS bowls, including winning the 2011 Rose Bowl against Wisconsin.
He also worked with KaVontae Turpin in 2017. Turpin established himself as one of the most electrifying players in TCU history, becoming the only player in the nation to score a receiving touchdown, passing touchdown, punt return touchdown, and kick return touchdown in the same season.
Last season, Anderson coached the UTSA Roadrunners to a 9-4 overall record, including a 7-1 record in their debut season in the American Athletic Conference. UTSA had three all-conference players: Terrell Haynes, Ernesto Almaraz, and Cory Godinet.
Before coaching with TCU, Anderson also spent time working as an assistant with Tyler Junior College. In 1994, he began his college football coaching career as a graduate assistant with the New Mexico Lobos.
