California Basketball had about the worst season possible in 2022-23, finishing with the least amount of wins of Power Conference team this season. One day after the end of the ’23 campaign, Jeff Goodman reports that the Golden Bears have fired head coach Mark Fox after a 3-29 season and last-place Pac-12 finish in year four.

Here was his tweet with the report:

“Cal has parted ways with Mark Fox, source told @Stadium.”

Fox finished 38-87 as California head coach, good for a 30.4% winning percentage, and had just two seasons of 10 wins or more while never finishing .500 or better. Before moving west, Fox was an SEC mainstay as the Georgia head coach, where he led five winning seasons and had far more success than more recent coaches in his final years before being fired there too.

Now, the power conference coaching veteran will hit the market again. Perhaps he’ll return to a strong mid-major program after he originally cut his teeth at Nevada — where Fox made several NCAA Tournament appearances and even won a tourney game with the Wolfpack.
