The Clemson Tigers are preparing for one of their most anticipated games of the 2022 season, their matchup against their bitter in-state rivals, the South Carolina Gamecocks. Tiger fans got a dose of some good news from their head coach Dabo Swinney’s recent press conference. He provided fans with a positive update on Clemson’s 6-foot-5, 325-pound offensive lineman, Marcus Tate. While Swinney sounded upbeat about Tate’s status this week, he was cautious about letting everyone know they are still awaiting official confirmation from an MRI.

“Yeah, he tweaked his knee. I don’t really know. They don’t think it’s too serious, but you know, until you get an MRI, you don’t really want to speculate on that stuff. But, it looked like MCL, ACL was all good. But again, until you do an MRI, you just never know. So, hopefully he’ll be ok,” Swinney said.

The Clemson head coach then discussed his excitement about another one of his offensive linemen, Mitchell Mayes. “And ‘ole Mitchell Mayes went back in there and played a solid game for us again. He’s played some tackle, he’s played guard. Right guard, left guard. It’s good to not notice him. Honestly. That’s probably the best part. I really hadn’t noticed him much. He’s doing his job,” Swinney said.

Clemson throttled the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday night to the tune of a 40-10 beatdown. While this season might not quite be what Swinney and company had envisioned at the beginning of the year, they’ll still be playing in the 2022 ACC Championship Game in a few weeks against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Clemson currently sits at 10-1 overall this year, with their lone loss coming in humiliating fashion on the road against Notre Dame.

The Tigers will need all the healthy bodies they can get for this weekend’s game against South Carolina. The Gamecocks are playing impressive football and they stunned the fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, 63-38 on Saturday. The shocking upset ruined the Volunteers’ dreams of punching their tickets 2022 College Football Playoff.

Clemson and South Carolina will clash on Saturday, Nov. 26. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 PM EST.
