J.D. PicKell Previews and Predicts Colorado vs. USC

Following Colorado‘s disappointing 42-6 loss to Oregon last Saturday, former NFL wide receiver and current sports media personality Keyshawn Johnson made an interesting claim regarding the game. Johnson said he spoke to someone in “the coaching fraternity” who claimed there was an abundance of information being given to Oregon’s coaching staff regarding game planning against Colorado.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said that teams are trying to beat him individually more than his team after their loss to the Ducks, and on Tuesday he was asked if that statement at all aligns with Johnson’s claim.

“No, I was alluding to what I said, I was honest about what I said. No that happens every week, that’s not just from [the] Oregon game that’s life,” Sanders said.

Collegiate coaches making calls to one another regarding upcoming opponents is actually quite common in the college football landscape, and something that Sanders himself admitted to partaking in. But Sanders is also willing to accept the idea that more coaches than usual could have been keen on assisting the Ducks’ coaching staff last week.

“We call call for information as well, so it’s not a one stop type of thing,” Sanders said. “But I know Keyshawn alluded to the gentleman saying that they have a plethora of calls trying to assist, which is understandable. That don’t make it no tougher, no easier, we understand that’s what we’re up against.”

Sanders knows that his personality and the spotlight he’s been able to place on Colorado puts somewhat of a target on the back of his program on a weekly basis. And he wants his coaches to understand that us versus the world mentality moving forward.

“And I want our coaches to understand that we’re not just playing against a team, we’re playing against all of college football,” Sanders said. “It ain’t too many people lined up to see us dominate and to see us win, and they got to understand that as a whole and our entire staff has to understand you’re not just participating against that per se school.”

The Buffaloes will likely continue getting team’s best shots as the Coach Prime era continues in Boulder, and regardless of how that looks behind the scenes, there’s no question that they got Oregon’s.

The Ducks generated 522 yards of total offense to go along with their 42 points against Colorado, as Sanders and his squad will seek better fortune against another high-powered offense this weekend when they host USC.
