Colorado linebacker and former Alabama player Demouy Kennedy is back in the transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Kennedy appeared in five games for Alabama in 2022 before suffering a season-ending injury. His lone tackle of the year came against Vanderbilt on Sept. 24. But in 2021, he played in all 14 of the Crimson Tide’s games and recorded seven total tackles. At Colorado this past fall, he appeared in 10 games and made 13 total tackles, including two for a loss.

Demouy Kennedy played high school football for Theodore (AL) High, where he was a four-star prospect. He ranked as the No. 38 overall prospect in the 2020 cycle according to On3 Industry Rankings, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Colorado and the Transfer Portal

Since Deion Sanders has taken over as the head coach at Colorado, the Buffaloes have been one of the most active teams in the portal including both players leaving the program and players coming into the program. Among the big names to transfer to Colorado are his quarterback and son Shedeur Sanders and two-way player Travis Hunter.

The number of players transferring out of Colorado continues to grow this offseason, though. in addition to Kennedy, on Wednesday night, another individual announced that they plan to enter the NCAA transfer portal and part ways with the Buffaloes, as ESPN’s Pete’s Thamel reported that running back Alton McCaskill has informed him that he plans on entering the transfer portal.

To this point in the 2024 cycle, Colorado has the No. 3 ranked transfer class, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. There are 33 players who have transferred out and 25 who have transferred into the Colorado program since the end of last season — quite a bit of commotion for team.

One thing that head coach Deion Sanders will need to navigate is getting the Colorado roster to 85 scholarship players. Between incoming transfers and freshmen, teams often need to see players transfer to not end up above that number.

The Spring Transfer Portal Window will be open for a total of 15 days.
