Kayce Smith On Texas A&m Should Go Get Deion Sanders, Mike Elko

Colorado stacked win No. 4 on Saturday, taking down Arizona State in dramatic fashion. A game-winning field goal was hit and the celebration was on in Tempe. Just ask Deion Sanders what he thought about Shedeur Sanders‘ celebration, calling for the quarterback to receive a NIL deal from a watch company.

Just two wins separate Colorado from bowl eligibility, something they have not accomplished since the 2020 season. Winning six games would be great for the program coming off last year’s 1-11 performance. But at this moment in time, Deion Sanders is not too interested in thinking about a bowl game.

“We want to win,” Sanders said. “I don’t give a damn about no bowl right now. We want to win. If that’s part of the package at the conclusion of the season of winning — I’m all for it… But that’s one of my least concerns right now is a bowl.”

This is not to say Sanders does not enjoy bowl games. He went to four straight as a player at Florida State, including the Fiesta Bowl (1987) and Sugar Bowl (1988). All four of them resulted in wins for the Seminoles and Sanders enjoyed the experience.

“I thank God when I was in college, we had the opportunity to go to four straight bowl games,” Sanders said. “Which was a true gift that was wonderful. Me and my teammates enjoyed it. They had wonderful packages of bags full of gear and all sorts of things, surprises for ya. And it was a great time.”

Sanders just has bigger goals for the season than making a bowl game. Maybe getting another statement win down the road will come as a priority. Four ranked opponents remain and all of them are seriously contending for a Pac-12 Championship.

Colorado likely wants to get to Las Vegas itself but with two losses under their belt, it’s unlikely. Sanders is just aiming for more than the minimum six wins for bowl eligibility. He wants to win on a weekly basis, no matter who the opponent is.

Stanford is next up on the schedule, coming to Boulder on Friday night. Not that we needed these comments from Sanders to understand what his goal is but winning is exactly it. Game by game, Coach Prime just wants to continue to play well and win how they did in the first three weeks of the regular season.
