Deion Sanders and Colorado held a 13-0 lead over Nebraska going into the halftime locker room, but the Buffaloes left a lot of plays on the field according to the head coach.

Colorado forced three turnovers from Huskers quarterback Jeff Sims, two fumbles and an interception, but only came away with 13 points. Nonetheless, the Buffaloes had the lead.

Sanders spoke with FOX sideline reporter Jenny Taft before running into the locker room.

“We were all over the place,” Sanders said on the broadcast. “We were truly erratic, couldn’t run the ball. We weren’t clicking on all cylinders. I think we beat ourselves up at least with a lot of penalties in the first half. That’s not indicative of who we are. But the defense has been holding on strong and I’m proud of that.”

Taft asked Sanders his message to his team during halftime with a lead.

“This is personal,” Sanders said. “It’s only 13-0 and it should be much more than that. Well, we got to just take care of little things, we’ll be okay. God bless you Buff Nation.”

With solid defense, Colorado finally found the end zone after leading 3-0 in the first half. Shedeur Sanders found Tar’Varish Dawson for a 30 yard touchdown to go up 10-0.

Through 30 minutes, Sanders was was 14-of-21 passing for 134 yards and a touchdown. But as Deion Sanders pointed out, the run game was virtually non-existent.

Dylan Edwards, last week’s star freshman, had four carries for nine yards to lead the team. On the flip side, Gabe Ervin Jr. led Nebraska with 14 carries for 73 yards, but the Huskers had zero points to show for it.

Travis Hunter was a little less involved on offense to start the game. Going into the halftime locker room, Hunter had two catches for 33 yards.

Colorado ready for Nebraska ahead of home opener in 2023

Deion Sanders joined the Big Noon Kickoff crew on FOX Saturday morning since they were in Boulder preparing to cover his Buffaloes’ home game against Nebraska. As part of that appearance, Urban Meyer asked him why he thinks the squad won’t take their foot off the pedal in game No. 2.

“Because they’re not satisfied,” Sanders answered abruptly. “These kids are hungry. They came here for a reason.”

He explained that Colorado is sort of an island of misfit toys from other schools. The roster is full of guys who are hungry to finally get their shine when maybe they didn’t previously have the opportunities they wanted at other schools.

“Some of them, they didn’t fit where they were, it just didn’t work out where they were. They didn’t get the reps that they wanted. Now they’re getting the opportunity,” Sanders said.
