Jim Nagy on Deion Sanders and Colorado, TCU

During the Colorado Buffaloes‘ win over TCU, Horned Frogs running back Trey Sanders got banged up. When he was down, Deion Sanders went over to him with a message. TCU doesn’t have a chance without him.

As Deion Sanders explained on the Colorado Football Coaches Show, he cares about Trey Sanders and considered taking him as a transfer. However, injuries kept the Buffaloes from taking him.

“He got hurt, I don’t know if you remember that,” Sanders said. “And I walked over to him because he was a kid that wanted to come here.”

“The reason I didn’t take him was because he sustained some significant injuries and Coach (Charles) Kelly knew about those injuries and Coach Sal (Sunseri), so we didn’t take him. But I still had love for the kid because he wanted to play for us. So, I went out there and I said, ‘Son, now you know if you don’t get up, they ain’t got a chance. So I want you to get your butt up and get back in this game and be dominant like you’ve been.'”

For Deion Sanders, he gave this message to Trey Sanders to try and help him.

“That’s what I told him. I wanted the kid to be dominant. His last name’s Sanders, first of all, and he was the No. 2 on offense. That’s what the conversation was.”

Trey Sanders was a five-star recruit and the top-ranked running back in the Class of 2019, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He started his career at Alabama, where he got solid playing time, appearing in 27 games over three seasons. However, he was still plagued by injury issues there. That includes getting into a car wreck that injured him.

In the game against Colorado, Sanders carried the ball 15 times and had three touchdowns.

Deion Sanders on the rivalry with Nebraska

One thing Deion Sanders wanted to make clear as he turns his attention to Nebraska, this rivalry with the Cornhuskers is personal.

“This team, this is a personal game. Not only does it mean a lot to you. It means a lot to us. And we want to represent our home. We talked about something about homes. Nobody’s going to come in my home, my natural home and whoop me. Nobody’s going to grab me out of my car and whoop me. Nobody’s going to come anywhere I call mine and whoop me,” Sanders said.

“We gotta have that same passion, that same energy when it comes to this game. We’re not gonna let nobody come into our house and whoop us. It’s personal.”
