Nebraska Colorado Instant Reaction

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders turned in another sterling performance also the Buffaloes romped to a 36-14 win against Nebraska in the home opener. It’s got plenty of attention on Sanders as Colorado has rolled to 2-0.

Following another gaudy stat line, Sanders is getting some Heisman hype from current college football analyst and former Heisman winner Matt Leinart. The USC legend took to X on Saturday afternoon to offer some praise for Sanders.

He specifically highlighted the counting stats the Colorado quarterback has put up through two games: 903 yards and seven passing touchdowns while completing 78% of his attempts.

On his current pace, Sanders would finish the 2023 regular season with more than 5500 passing yards and 40 passing touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception.

Leinart is not alone in getting Sanders some Heisman hype

Another chapter was written on the story of Sanders on Saturday. Following a breakout performance against TCU, Sanders pulled off another great afternoon in Boulder against bitter rival Nebraska. A slow first half led to an offensive explosion and a win in front of the Folsom Field crowd.

Multiple different plays stand out from Saturday’s play, but head coach Deion Sanders liked one that wound up having no impact on the game. Following a touchdown, Colorado decided to go for two, furthering their lead. The pass may have wound up falling incomplete but it could wind up being a highlight down the road.

“One of the funniest moments in the darn game was when Shedeur took his helmet off after he made the tremendous scramble,” Deion Sanders said. “It was like a Heisman-type play.”

Shedeur was able to avoid the butt chewing though with a simple line. There was nothing Deion was able to do after a quick one-liner.

“And I went over and said ‘You cannot do that. You cannot take your helmet off.’ He said ‘Dad, it’s personal.’ I just bent over and laughed my butt off because it was in the moment and I was really upset. He broke me with ‘It’s personal.’ So, they really took it to heart.'” Deion Sanders said.

Sanders has completed 77.5% of his throws for 903 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions. If he can continue throughout a grueling Pac-12 schedule, there might be a serious discussion about the Colorado QB earning a spot in New York City.

A couple of special plays will need to be produced as well. While the two-point conversion attempt was an impression one, it wound up not counting for Colorado. Pulling something similar off in a clutch situation and you have the textbook definition of a Heisman moment.
