Week 5 Picks: USC @ Colorado

Shilo Sanders suffered a scary injury during last week’s game against Oregon. The Colorado defensive back was taken to the hospital when Colorado returned from the loss because he was peeing blood.

Deion Sanders provided an update on his son Shilo during the Primetime Radio Show on Thursday. Like two-way star Travis Hunter, Shilo Sanders is also dealing with a kidney injury.

“Praying for him. I don’t even know how he did this. I mean what’s going on with the kidney in Boulder? What’s going on with us right now?” Deion Sanders said. “I mean he got on the plane and he was like, ‘Dad, I’m peeing blood.’ … So we landed and we went straight to the hospital to check him out. He was cool. But he can’t participate until he stops urinating blood.”

Shilo Sanders is still hopeful that he will be able to play on Saturday against the Trojans, but Deion Sanders isn’t sure at this point.

“He told the doctor, ‘You know I’m a Sanders, right? I’ve gotta play.’ … He wants to play so bad,” Deion said. “So we have another probably 36 hours before we really know if he’s not urinating blood anymore.”

If Shilo Sanders is unable to suit up, it would be a huge hit for the Colorado defense. The Buffaloes are expected to have their hands full on Saturday going up against Caleb Williams and the loaded USC offense.

“That’s a blow,” Deion Sanders said. “Shilo, he’s the attitude back there. He’s the vocal guy. He’s the enforcer. He’s him back there.”

Deion Sanders shares Travis Hunter is doing well in injury recovery, will not return until 100%

In addition to updating the status of Shilo Sanders, Deion also provided an update on Travis Hunter and how his recovery is coming along.

“He’s doing well. He’s really doing well,” Sanders said on the Buffaloes Primetime Radio Show. “He wants to play but he has to get healthy. I care about that kid. He’s just like one of my children. I love him, like he loves the game of football.”

The talented sophomore has been one of the early stars for the Buffaloes this season, playing both ways and doing it remarkably well.

When he’s on the field he’s a guy that the opponent immediately must make note of, whether he’s playing at receiver or at cornerback. Still, Travis Hunter will likely be out a bit longer.

“He has to understand there’s an expectation of him,” Sanders said. “You can’t get on the field halfway. Like when you play, you’ve got to play. You can’t get out there and go half. He knows no half speed, but he will play and he’s not 100% and then it’s not a full Travis. Then the whole country’s saying he’s not this and that, and I can’t put him in that situation.”
