As a Recruit
Personal Life
Caleb Williams was the No. 1 recruit in the On300 coming out of high school at Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga Prep. As a junior, he threw for 19 touchdowns and ran for 18 more on his way to winning Gatorade Washington D.C. Player of the Year. He was the 2020 Elite 11 Finals MVP. During August 2020, Williams and his father, Carl, organized an event for Oklahoma commits and targets in Norman, Okla., during a COVID-induced recruiting dead period. Called “Sooner Summit,” 16 recruits including Williams made the trip to Norman to talk, workout, hang out and enjoy the town. Of the 16 players, 12 are enrolled or committed to Oklahoma. Williams did not play a senior season due to the COVID pandemic and enrolled early at Oklahoma. After the 2021 season, OU coach Lincoln Riley left to take the job at USC. Williams entered the Transfer Portal and ended up following Riley to Los Angeles. It was in LA that he had a remarkable 2022 season, throwing for 4,075 yards and 37 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He also ran for 10 touchdowns. It was a season that ended with him hoisting the Heisman Trophy in New York City. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a player to go win a Heisman,” Williams said at the ceremony. “So, to be in that moment, no matter how much sleep I had, I kept a smile on my face, I was happy to be there and I’m very grateful.”
