Lithonia (Ga.) Deerfield Beach three-star offensive tackle David Conner has been committed to Florida since August.

He says that won’t be changing anytime soon.

Conner tweeted Sunday that he is committed to the Gators as a program and not for anyone in partcular.

“I committed to The University of Florida, not a coach,” Conner said. “I think that should answer all your questions.”

While the “coach” will most likely be interpreted as Dan Mullen, it could also be somewhat in reference to former run-game coordinator/offensive line coach John Hevesy. Mullen fired Hevesy two weeks ago.

Conner told On3’s Jeremy Johnson that Hevesy played a huge role in his commitment.

“It was really the workout, and the way coach Hevesy took me through the workout,” Conner said. “Coach Hevesy didn’t just work me out like the other schools did. He actually helped me and installed tools in me that I have. He gave me knowledge that I didn’t have. I left a better player. That really did it for me.”

David Conner’s affirmation comes in a time of turmoil at Florida

On Sept. 19, the Gators season seemed to be set for a great season. They lost a close game to Alabama but it seemed like the program was just one step away from taking the next step into the elite of the elite.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Florida has lost five of seven since the start of October, including a 24-23 loss Saturday to Missouri. The Gators now need to defeat rival Florida State to make a bowl game.

On the recruiting trail, they lost what were their top two recruits. Mobile (Ala.) Faith Academy linebacker Shemar James decommitted from the school on Oct. 20 and Houston Clear Lake four-star cornerback Julian Humphrey decommitted five days later.

On top of all of that, rumors about Mullen’s future with the program have been swirling for the last few weeks. Whether he stays with the program or goes remains to be seen.
