It’s the first pick six for the Florida Gators since 2018. It came at a time when they needed it the most on Saturday night. The interception returned for touchdown put them up 24-10 late in the second quarter and proved to play a critical role in the final outcome of Saturday night’s contest.

Give South Florida credit because they battled for much of the game, but Kimber’s interception return proved to be critical in the outcome, no doubt about it. He came to the Florida Gators this offseason by way of the transfer portal from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Coming out of Mansfield Timberview High School (Arlington, Texas) Kimber was rated as the nation’s No. 10 defensive back and a four-star prospect, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2020 cycle. An elite athlete, he dominated the combine at the 2019 Opening Finals. Kimber finished with a 4.02 agility shuttle time, 42-foot power ball toss, a 4.44 40-yard dash, and a 42-inch vertical leap.

The Gators survived on Saturday night 31-28 and what a difference a few games makes. Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson has been struggling ever since his incredible performance against the Utah Utes a few weeks ago. He’s thrown zero touchdown passes and four interceptions in three games.

Gators running back Montrell Johnson had six carries for 106 rushing yards and one touchdown on Saturday night. Florida freshman phenom Trevor Etienne also had eight carries for 56 rushing yards and one touchdown in the victory.
