Sunday was a sad day for Florida State after the Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoff following an undefeated season capped off by an ACC Championship win on Saturday night against Louisville.

Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis finds himself right in the middle of Florida State’s College Football Playoff omission, suffering a devastating season-ending injury in Week 12 that also ended his collegiate career and the team’s dreams of playing in a national championship.

The College Football Playoff Committee decided Sunday to place one-loss teams like Texas and Alabama ahead of Florida State for this year’s playoff despite the Seminoles being undefeated, citing Travis’ injury as a ‘really a big factor’ in their rationale for their decision. But despite that harsh truth coming with a lot of pain for FSU fans, players, and staff, Travis shared an inspirational message to Seminole’s Nation on Sunday night.

“Thank you to the fans for a great season. We are not done yet, and lets control what we can control. The journey has been so great, and today we are ACC champions. Let’s not let the opinions of others affect how we feel about being champions of this conference. Proud of this team,” Travis tweeted.

There’s no question that Florida State has a lot to be proud of this season, securing their first ACC Championship win since the 2014 season and their first undefeated season since 2013. But the Seminoles also went on to win the national championship in that 2013 season, making their exclusion from this year’s playoffs seem bizarre and likely extra painful for FSU.

Jordan Travis showed a change in tone in his most recent message to Florida State’s fans compared to earlier in the day when he instantly reacted to the Seminoles being ranked No. 5 in the CFP’s final rankings of the season.

“devastated. heartbroken In so much disbelief rn,” Travis tweeted earlier in the day. “I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. I thought results matter. 13-0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so sorry. Go Noles!”

Backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker led FSU to a 24-15 win over rival Florida to end the regular season and third-string freshman quarterback Brock Glenn was under center for the team’s 16-6 win in the conference championship game. But that was not enough for the committee, placing the one-loss Crimson Tide and Longhorns into the playoff ahead of the Seminoles following their respective conference title wins.

Florida State faces Georgia in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 30.
