Jeff Cameron from Warchant Joins to Discuss Florida State and Realignment

Florida State brings back one of the most talented and experienced rosters in college football this season, returning eight starters on the offensive side of the ball including star running back Trey Benson.

Benson had a breakout year for the Seminoles last season with 990 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on just 154 carries and six starts. ACC defenses are now familiar with Benson’s game after his strong showing a season ago, but the fresh faces of Keon Coleman and Destyn Hill at the wide receiver spot could add a new more unexpected element to the Seminoles’ offense in 2023.

“They fit right in,” Benson said. “Destyn’s been gone for a year or two from it, he’s actually good, it looked like he never left away from it. And Keon, that’s a freak athlete right there.”

Destyn Hill signed with the Seminoles out of Edna Karr high school in New Orleans as a part of their 2021 recruiting class. He was rated as a four-star prospect, ranked the No. 18 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 5 player in the state of Louisiana according to On3’s Industry Ranking, but has spent the last two years away from the team.

He recently opened up about his two years away from the team, citing personal and familial matters as the reasoning for his hiatus. But he’s now officially enrolled in school at Florida State and clearly making a good early impression on the Seminoles’ RB1.

Keon Coleman on the other hand joins the team after spending the last two seasons at Michigan State. Coleman had an electric season in 2022 for the Spartans, being named third-team All-Big Ten following an impressive 58 receptions for 798 yards and seven touchdowns.

He was ranked the No. 26 overall prospect and the No. 12 wide receiver in the transfer portal this offseason according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings, and has already brought the swagger down to Tallahassee.

“Keon’s got a lot of swag, a lot of confidence, and I can’t wait to see what he can do this year,” Benson said.

Coleman brings a different body type to the table than Hill, towering at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds compared to Hill’s 6-foot, 190-pound frame. But according to Benson, they both bring similar skills to the FSU offense that could make them even scarier to defenses in the 2023 season.

“They’re more of big-play guys, they catch every ball that comes to them, they catch long balls, and they’re very explosive players,” Benson concluded.
