Former Florida State defensive back Jarvis Brownlee is headed to Louisville, he announced via Twitter Saturday morning. Brownlee committed to the Cardinals after visiting the university last month after entering the transfer portal.

The Opa Locka, Fla., prospect played in 78 games while in Tallahassee, making 48 total tackles, four passes defended, three interceptions, one forced fumble, one sack and one defensive touchdown. The former three-star prospect in the 2019 class chose Florida State over notable offers from LSU, Florida, Miami, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Cincinnati, among others.

Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield said after spring practice last week that he would like his team to add more depth to the secondary out of the transfer portal and are doing just that. Brownlee is the fifth defensive back the Cardinals have snagged out of the portal and ninth overall.

One question Florida State must answer this spring ahead of 2022 season

Florida State experienced many ups and downs in the 2021 season but has looked to reload during spring practice with an eye toward 2022. With a new-look staff working under head coach Mike Norvell, the upcoming games could become make-or-break for him and the assistant coaches looking to rebuild the program.

CBS Sports writer Chip Patterson broke down the one question facing each ACC school as spring practice continues and the 2022 season approaches. He provided a detailed explanation of the biggest departure and addition for Florida State this year and explained how it impacts the program.

“In his lone season in Tallahassee, former Florida State defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson recorded 18 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021,” Patterson wrote. “No defensive transfer in the entire ACC was as impactful. His play in the trenches made everything a little bit easier for a group that finished as a top-five defense in the conference in yards per play allowed.

“Adam Fuller and new hire Randy Shannon are working as co-defensive coordinators for Mike Norvell heading into a pivotal Year 3. Shoring up the defensive side of the ball will take some pressure off quarterback Jordan Travis and an offense that’s still finding its footing. While Johnson himself might not be able to be replaced, the Seminoles need some instant impact in his absence.”
