Georgia’s star tight end Brock Bowers will have a new offensive coordinator for the 2023 season, with Mike Bobo taking over for Todd Monken. This move came after Monken made the jump to the NFL.

In some cases, this type of change could be a concern for a star player. However, that isn’t the case for Bowers, who is excited for Bobo to join the staff.

“I can’t really think of one moment,” Brock Bowers said. “He always comes out with great energy every day and, I mean, he always supports us. I really like him. He just comes out every day with a good attitude and mindset.”

Brock Bowers was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021. Since then, he’s been arguably the best tight end in all of college football. Through two seasons, he’s played in 29 games and won two national championships. As a tight end, he has 119 catches for 1,824 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Bulldogs have even managed to give him 13 carries for 165 yards rushing and four more scores.

He has a long list of awards, including the Mackey Award from last season. He was given that award during Georgia’s spring game.

“I mean, it’s really about the team,” Bowers said. “The success we had last year just has helped me out, and I couldn’t have done it without my coaches or my teammates.”

Mike Bobo knows Georgia well. He played quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1993-97 before getting into coaching. Under Mark Richt, Bobo was a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Georgia. He then was the head coach at Colorado State before returning to the SEC as a coordinator. He and Brock Bowers should have some familiarity too, as Bobo was an analyst for the team in 2022.

Brock Bowers on the quarterback battle

Georgia is currently working through a quarterback battle to replace Stetson Bennett. Until that decision is made, the offense is always going to have some questions to answer. Brock Bowers doesn’t know who that starter is going to be, though he does think that they’re working hard.

“I think it’s still up in the air,” Bowers said.

“They push each other every day. One might have like a better than another and then could switch off every other day. They just keep pushing each other in that room and it’s just gonna make a team that much better.”
