Georgia QB Carson Beck is excited about addition of Trevor Etienne, chance to compete against himself

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck opted to return to the program for the 2024 campaign. When Georgia landed former Florida running back Trevor Etienne in the portal, it was simply a delightful surprise. On Tuesday, Beck described how Etienne will affect the upcoming season.

“It always helps to have a good running back,” Beck said. “When you feel comfortable turning your back to the defense, handing it off. Obviously, we saw what he was able to do at Florida and we’re really happy to have him. He’s been working really hard and I’m excited to see what he can do.”

Etienne will help fill the holes left in Georgia’s offense by Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton, who are entering the 2024 NFL Draft. The backfield pair combined for 1,670 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns in the 2023 campaign.

In comparison, Etienne boasted 753 yards and eight touchdowns on 131 rushing attempts last season, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. The 5-foot-9 talent also collected 21 receptions for 172 yards and a score.

Etienne’s receiving numbers will only increase with Beck on the delivering end. Beck finished this past season ranked third nationally and first in the SEC in passing yards (3,941), as well as fourth in the nation in completion percentage (.724).

For his efforts, he was named a Coaches All-SEC Second Team selection and was a finalist for the Manning Award. With Beck by his side, Etienne couldn’t be happier with his decision to become a Bulldog.

Trevor Etienne happy to be a Bulldog

“For me, the good outweighed the bad,” Etienne said of his decision to transfer. “I’ve been with Florida for two years, went through that whole process of rebuilding and felt like there was a lot of uncertainty, a lot of questions, a lot of unknown going on. I felt like I could stay here (Florida) and do what I’ve been doing for another year or two, or bet on myself and take a chance somewhere else.”

“I wanted to play in December too. That also played a big part in me transferring,” he added. “To sum it up, I could stay and RB2 on a losing team or go somewhere and possibly be RB1 and win a natty.”

Spring practice begins at Georgia next Tuesday, March 12th. Trevor Etienne will be another opportunity to impress his fellow Bulldogs. Georgia will conduct 15 sessions including three scrimmages, the final of which acts as the annual G-Day spring game on April 13th.
