Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Tymon Mitchell has put his name in the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. The Bulldogs just wrapped up the spring season and now Mitchell, a redshirt sophomore, is looking for a new home.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle played in four games for Kirby Smart’s team on the way to their first national title in more than 40 years this season. He posted a tackle a piece in the games versus Charleston Southern and Arkansas, and two tackles versus Vanderbilt and UAB. He played in six games total over three seasons in Athens.

Tymon Mitchell will be immediately eligible at his next program as this is the first transfer of his career.

A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Mitchell was a four-star prospect and top-500 recruit, according to the On3 Consensus.

Mitchell joins OL Clay Webb in transfer portal

The Georgia Bulldogs have only lost a couple players in the last month. Offensive lineman Clay Webb, another 2019 signee, opted to leave last week.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
