It appears Georgia won’t be celebrating their most recent National Championship like others before them: with a trip to the White House. Bulldogs defensive lineman Warren Brinson announced the team isn’t heading to Washington for the annual acknowledgement ceremony with the president, even tagging President Joe Biden in his tweet.

“No invite to the White House is crazy,” Brinson tweeted.

Neither Georgia nor the White House have commented on the decision.

It’s the second straight year the Bulldogs aren’t going to the White House. Last year, after winning their first title in 40 years, the team wasn’t able to go because of COVID-19 restrictions. This year, multiple Georgia representatives requested the White House invite the team after the team won its second consecutive title.

The letter — signed by Sen. Jon Ossoff, Sen. Raphael Warnock and Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter, among others — said the representatives hoped the “repeat championship team can join the many teams prior that have been honored by the President.”

“We hope you will join us in recognizing the tremendous achievements of all University of Georgia’s football players, coaches, and staff who contributed to this championship season,” the letter read, via FOX 5 Atlanta.

Because of the pandemic, LSU was the last national champion to visit the White House after winning the title.

Georgia dominated TCU in the national championship en route to a 65-7 victory thanks to a huge performance from Stetson Bennett. He completed 18 of 25 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns in the air while also rushing for 39 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. That earned him the game’s MVP honors as he wrapped up his storybook college career.

The Bulldogs will now embark on their quest to three-peat as champions this coming season, albeit with multiple new faces in tow. Not only is Bennett attempting to go to the NFL, but offensive coordinator Todd Monken is also heading to the league as the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator. That means Georgia will have a new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator in 2023 with Mike Bobo taking back the role he held from 2007-14 at his alma mater.
