Rusty Mansell Details the Latest in Georgia Bulldogs Recruiting | QB Situation in 2025

Recruiting at the quarterback position for Georgia turned out to be a bit of a rollercoaster last cycle.

The Bulldogs looked to be bringing in five-star QB Dylan Raiola as a centerpiece signee, but a December flip to Nebraska threw a wrench into those plans. Thankfully for UGA, four-star QB Ryan Puglisi remained pledged to the program and has since enrolled.

With things beginning to take shape with the class of 2025, Kirby Smart and the Georgia staff have their sights set on two of the top signal-callers in the nation — Carrollton (Ga.) five-star Julian Lewis and Royersford (Pa.) Spring-Ford four-star Matt Zollers.

“There’s no doubt about it, it is those two at the top,” Georgia recruiting insider Jake Rowe said on ‘The Inside Scoop’.

Bulldogs in the mix for both elite gunslingers

Lewis, the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 2 QB in the 2025 cycle, remains committed to USC, but Georgia is among a handful of programs trying to change that.

He’s set to return to Athens this week and has already made a trip to the in-state program this year. Georgia is battling with the Trojans, as well as Auburn, Alabama and Colorado for the five-star.

“What stands out about Georgia is the stability,” Lewis told On3 last month. “You know what they are and what they are going to be. Kirby Smart is straight-forward and I have great relationships with Coach Bobo, Coach VanGorder and Coach McGee. Georgia has been consistent, I feel wanted and they like my ability in the program. What always stands out at Georgia is the guys they have on the roster. They always have dudes there.”

As for Zollers — the No. 5 QB in the cycle — Georgia made his top four schools last month alongside Penn State, Missouri and Pittsburgh. A commitment ahead of the summer looks to be in the cards for the 6-foot-3.5, 200-pounder.

“They check in probably a couple of times a week,” Zollers told DawgsHQ earlier this month. “I’m talking to almost every coach…It’s super cool to have a program like that who has been very good for the last couple of years (wanting you) is pretty cool.”

UGA set on landing one of the two QBs

In the eyes of Rowe, the QB board in Athens features these two names clearly at the top. Other signal-callers have been linked to the SEC powerhouse, but all roads seem to be leading to either a flip of Lewis or a fresh pledge from Zollers.

“I don’t see Georgia getting past those top-two options,” Rowe said. “I think Georgia’s gonna get Julian Lewis, they’re gonna end up getting Matt Zollers — one or the other in this class. I think right now, it’s tough to make a call.”

“I do know this: if you were to get inside the minds of the Georgia coaches that are involved in (Zoller’s) recruitment and involved in the recruitment of Juju Lewis, I think the gap between those two is miniscule. I think the Bulldogs really love both guys. It could be a first-come type of situation, it could be one of those deals where Georgia’s able to make something happen as soon as one makes a decision. But right now, I would lean heavily towards Georgia getting one of them.”

Georgia’s class currently ranks No. 3 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Adding an elite QB to the fold is a major priority for the Bulldogs staff as they try and land the top-ranked class in the nation once again.
