Carson Beck is going to face some significant expectations next season as he likely takes over the QB1 spot for Georgia. However, is he going to be ready for a spotlight that could put him in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy?

On3’s JD PicKell believes so. In a recent edition of ‘The Hard Count’, PicKell broke down the Heisman race in 2023 and labeled Beck as one of his dark horses. He thinks that he is eventually going to have the kind of case where it could be worthwhile to bet on the former four-star.

“Georgia quarterback Carson Beck? I think he checks a lot of boxes,” said PicKell. “And if you’re looking for somewhere to put your hard-earned money? Carson Beck makes a lot of sense.”

PicKell went on to explain two very simple, yet key reasons, why Beck is a candidate in his eyes. For one, he, like basically everyone else, realizes that the Bulldogs are going to win a lot of football games next season. Then, for two, he thinks that run and his case will only be amplified by the numbers that he could be putting up with the personnel that’ll be at his disposal.

“Based on what the award is given for? Carson Beck meets that criteria. One of the best players on what will be, going into the year, one of the best teams,” PicKell continued. “Georgia is going to have a chance to win a lot of games. The schedule isn’t exactly a gauntlet. Through no fault of Georgia’s own, they don’t have a super tough schedule. They’re gonna be in that conversation for a College Football Playoff berth. And have a chance to be in the SEC title game. All of the winning side of things for the Heisman Trophy shapes up just fine for Carson Beck.”

“You look around him? (He has) a lot of weapons, a lot of people for Carson Beck to get the football to,” PicKell said. “What does that mean? He has a chance to put up some really good numbers as Georgia wins a lot of games.”

That’s a lot to ask of a player that only has just under 60 pass attempts to his name during his three college seasons. Still, once you consider PicKell’s points, it’s not hard to make the case for Beck to potentially bring home just the program’s second-ever Heisman Trophy.

“There’s just enough of a runway (and) there’s just enough of a stage. I think it could all come together. And, if you wanted to put some money down, Carson Beck is a spot I would look,” stated PicKell. “For me, at least, he’s within that top-five range of being a Heisman Trophy candidate.”
