Kirby Smart says Georgia is having better week of practice

Kirby Smart is elated to have wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint back in Week 2, for a myriad of reasons.

The Georgia Bulldogs star missed their Week 1 victory due to a nagging injury, but he’ll be back out there this weekend as Smart’s squad looks to stay undefeated. Speaking with the media, the Georgia head coach revealed he believes the return of Rosemy-Jacksaint will have a gigantic impact on the play of young quarterback Carson Beck.

“It really helps, I think, Carson’s confidence,” explained Smart. “One of the big things that having Marcus around is like, ‘Ah, alright. Marcus knows every fastball play. Marcus knows exactly what to do when he checks. Marcus knows the route tree.’ Marcus gives you comfort as a quarterback that he’s going to do it right. Not just the physicality and blocking, because he’s more than a blocker. He goes up and makes plays on the ball. He had huge catches last year over the middle. The end-zone catch against Tennessee.

“I mean, he’s just very reliable. Having him back gives all those guys a little more swagger and confidence at receiver, because he’s out there, and it takes a little bit of a load off guys, in terms of volume.”

Obviously, Smart has a ton of confidence in Rosemy-Jacksaint, and it’s evident he’s not just a leader in the receiving room, but throughout the entire team.

That’s something Smart can’t wait to have back in the mix, even calling the leadership of the wide receiving the No. 1 thing Georgia missed over Week 1.

. “The No. 1 thing we missed (from Rosemy-Jacksaint) is leadership,” added Smart. “He’s incredible as a leader. He stands up, admits when he makes a mistake, and he is one of the toughest, most competitive — like, the practice today for him, will be like the Super Bowl. Every day is like that for him.

“I mean, he sets an example that I think it embodies are receiver room. I haven’t been around a receiver room that actually cares as much about blocking as these guys do. They do that because their leader has that personality.”

Nevertheless, missing Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint didn’t stop Georgia from rolling over Tennessee Martin as expected during last Saturday’s season opener.

Still, the Bulldogs will be looking to keep the train on the tracks once again in Week 2, as their star wide receiver, who doubles as one of their best leaders, returns to the field for Smart’s squad.
